Despite having have 1 large and 2 small bowel movements today, I still feel the need to go. When I try I can pass very small stools. Why is this?
Depending on: your age and duration of symptoms, this can be a worrisome sign. Unfortunately, a change in stool caliber can be a sign of stricture/scarring in the gut and even tumor (for at risk individuals). Increased pressure: It shouldn't hurt. When you have a bowel movement, it causes pressure in the abdomen and pelvis to evacuate the stool.
