Laparotomy Abdominal Exploration Surgery
22yr old, had exploratory laparotomy 2 years ago due to retroperitoneal hematoma. Now, I have abdominal pain. Heating/less movement helps with pain. I am young and do not want another surgery. Advice?
Retroperitoneal: Hematoma is a rare condition, unless you are on anticoagulants or have an anatomical abnormality. Recurrence is even more rare. This episode of pain is probably not hematoma, but something else. Consult your doctor for definitive diagnosis and advice. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It depends: It is best to check with your operating surgeon. Activity release is usually managed by your surgeon as only he or she knows the extent of the procedure and whether your recovery is satisfactory. However, most patients who had uneventful laparotomies do heal sufficiently by 4-6 wks to allow for resumption of most physical activities - including sex. ...Read more
How long after laparotomy surgery am i at risk gor dvt? Can i take a 4hour drive a month after surgery?
I have a 8cm cyst inleft ovary andmyce125 is 856 U/ml.in this situation is laparoscopy possible or i need laparotomy surgery?
Thanks for your response. I have another question.which surgery is best for ovary removal, laparoscopy or laparotomy. One of my dr suggest for laparoscopy and another for laparotomy. I'm really confused. And I have no baby . Will it be any problem for co
Best...: The best procedure is what the doctor feelsost comfortable with. In general, laparoscopic surgery has less pain and recovery, along with less scar tissue inside, this better for the patient, but only if the doctor is experienced and well trained with laparoscopy. Ask if they have passed the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) course offered in the USA, and how experienced they are. ...Read more
What causes an anastomotic leak after an ileostomy reversal surgery? Does a surgeon usually perform an Exploratory Laparotomy to correct?
Variety of causes: Anastomotic leaks can occur for a variety of reasons and are a known complication of GI surgery. The primary concern with anatomic leak is the passage of stool into the abdomen with the formation of abscesses and possibly systemic infections. The treatment for this is often to operate, find the leak, and wash out any stool that may have collected in the process. ...Read more

27 y.o with hypoechoic cystic lesions on both ovaries. One 8.4cm another 4cm. CA-125 was 190 then 110 on a second test. GYN wants to do lap surgery. Gyn/Onc wants to do laparotomy. Both suspect endometiomas and endometriosis. Which should I choose?
Depends: I am not a surgeon maybe I can help. The key issues are the surgeons level of confidence. These being equal, laparoscopic surgery is better due to less trauma to the abdomen. You can check to see if the surgeons post their statistics online for their complication rates. I found these for surgery that I needed. lastly, 8.4 cm is big. it may be hard to do through a scope. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is it common to have daily low grade fever after emergency laparotomy? It's been 8 weeks since surgery. Blood test show no current infection.
Fever: Hi, no it is not normal to have fever after any surgery, but be careful about what you are calling fever, the fever definition is a temperature of equal to more than 100.4, if your temp is higher or equal to this number then your doctor should figure out why, any blood collection anywhere? Infection? Hope you feel better soon. ...Read more
How to identify if a scar is a keloid. I have a post surgical scar in my abdomen following laparotomy as on 3 oct 2012?
Simple Silicone: Simple, inexpensive, non-invasive silicone treatment first (myscaraway, from walgreens or online), if that doesn't help within a few weeks, then go and seek care from a healthcare professional. You may require steroid/bleomycin injections, or electron-beam radiotherapy, if it is a keloid (very rare in whites, more in pigmented skin races) but try the simple stuff first. Hypertrophic scar also help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
