Apples and oranges: sorry if names sound similar, it might be confusing.. Exparel is a brand name for the paricular formulation of a numbing medicine, or local anesthetic - liposomal bupivacaine. Hernia is possible: If there was an open incision, there is about a 15-20% have if getting a hernia, unless the "short stitch" technique was used, then the risk drops to 5-8%.
