10 days post op from gallbladder removal. Lethargic and have flu like symptoms, tired, chills, no appetite but no fever. Should I call the doc?
Mgt: I would advise being seen by your PCP. They can then call the surgeon as indicated. It may be a self limited illness, but since you are in the post operative period, monitoring your temperature is important. ...Read more

Is it normal to experience chills and sweating several days after a routine laparoscopic appendectomy? Otherwise I have no pain or fever.
Deep breathe & cough: Most common for low grade temperature a few days after surgery is atelectasis. You need to take frequent deep inhalations and cough to open the lungs up. The second common cause of low grade temp is dehydration. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Both these measures ensure a smoother post op recovery. ...Read more
Post-op fever.: It wouldn’t be unusual for you to experience a temperature elevation within 24 hours of an operation. The cutting results in the body wanting to heal itself. And healing is accomplished by inflammation. The cells of inflammation release pyrogens, which elevate the temperature a bit. So a low grade fever (< 100.4) would be OK in those first 24 hours, assuming you’re healing well otherwise. ...Read more

Aftr gallbladder surgery on09-11-2012 my wife is having fever in the evening 5 hrs, taking trizolid-600 from last 04days, now fever only 2 hrs. Tips?
Antibiotic/fever: Daily fever of 5 hours, six months after gallbladder surgery is concerning. Fever might not be related to surgery. However, if your doc started your wife on oral antibiotic (trizolid is anti staph/mrsa) and she is responding with less time febrile, that implies an infection exists. Okay to ask your doc where the infection is located. Imaging, ct scan of abdomen may have been done/could help. ...Read more
Unlikely: Acute cholecystitis is an illness that resembles acute appendicitis, which doesn't last 2 months. Cholangitis, an inflammation of the biliary ducts, is another febrile illness but with a more malignant course not lasting 2 months either. I suspect another cause for your subfebrile illness. ...Read more

I got results from a Hida scan and my gallbladder function is 18%. I've also been having low grade fevers. Would this cause the fevers?
Doubtful: Low gallbladder ejection fraction is thought inve a disease called biliary dyskinesia, a functional problem with the gallbladder. This should not cause the fever. It may however prompt you to get your gallbladder removed surgically, which may help symptoms of pain, particularly if the medicine they gave you for the test reproduced the pain. This is done by a general surgeon. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Symptoms too?: Fever is non-specific and doesn't point at the gb alone. Do you have any typical gb symptoms like pain after meals in the ruq? Some illnesses of the gb are caused by build up of cholesterol inside the wall of the gallbladder. No stones will be seen. If you have RUQ pain and 9% ejection fraction from the gallbladder not emptying properly, consider discussing these findings with a general surgeon. ...Read more

Cholecystitis: Typically right upper abdominal pain as you described would be evaluated with liver lab tests and an ultrasound. GB stiff: Even though no stones, the gallbladder muscle can become sluggish and not eject bile like it should. The hidda scan discovers this dysfunction in way gb works to eject bile into the intestine. The other studies (including ultrasound and ct) look at architecture and not function.
