I'm a type 1 diabetic have been for 6 years I take novorapid & lantus, (insulin glargine) I want to lose weight?

Supervision: Type 1 diabetics that need to lose weight need to be in a supervised medical weight loss program. Your Insulin levels will need to be adjusted with calorie restriction, exercise, etc. Keep a food journal, try my fit plan app to help track calories, exercise and then speak with your physician who can provide more guidance on the Insulin levels, blood pressure and lab work. ...Read more

Losing Weight (Definition)

Many people resolve to lose weight in the New Year for different reasons. For those who are overweight or obese, there are many health benefits to losing weight. It can help decrease your chances of developing diseases including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, and even certain types of cancer. Low-calorie diets combined with increased physical activity are thought to be most effective long term. The healthiest weight loss regimen, therefore, is one that consists of making lifestyle changes that incorporate a balanced diet ...Read more

My mother is 56 yr old, 117kg is her wght, she is diabetic type 2, is taking victoza (liraglutide) injection for weight loss and lanctus for diabts. R these meds safe?

Use them w caution: All meds have risks involved. For these they need to be taken at seperate times to avoid drop in sugar. Victoza (liraglutide) can slow emptying of stomach & affect absorbtion of meds taken orally. The bigger issue is weight reduction. Type 2 dm doesn't have to be a life long disease. Get her to a dr that practices wt mgmt med. Get the wt down and the dose of Insulin can come down=less req insulin=easier wt loss. ...Read more

Does Lantus (insulin glargine) Insuline inyections cause weight gain?

Does Lantus (insulin glargine) Insuline inyections cause weight gain?

Lantus (insulin glargine): I am assuming that your insulin injections have been started not long ago.
Injections should not cause weight gain but there is a more important issue.
Type 2 diabetes can and should be corrected such that you no longer have diabetes.
Insulin injections should not cause weight gain.
With that in mind, talk to your doctor about diabetes and also have a dietitian help you with your weight. ...Read more

Which is more likely to cause weight gain novolog or lantus (insulin glargine)? Pls explain. Thx!

Which is more likely to cause weight gain novolog or lantus (insulin glargine)? Pls explain. Thx!

Neither: I don't think one is more likely than the other to cause weight gain all by itself. Weight gain comes with poor blood sugar control. Whichever preparation (or combination of the two) allows you the tightest control wins.
Are you not going to test more than once or twice a day, ever? Then Lantus (insulin glargine) is probably better, since it's longer acting. I would not recommend laziness in this, however.
Be well. ...Read more

I have type 2 diabetes pills are giving my g.i. hard time doc advises lantus but why is levemir (insulin detemir) way cheaper? Which is more effective? Less gain weight

I have type 2 diabetes pills are giving my g.i. hard time doc advises lantus but why is levemir (insulin detemir) way cheaper? Which is more effective? Less gain weight

Both are similar: Lantus and levemir (insulin detemir) are equally effective in helping to control type 2 diabetes but levemir (insulin detemir) does not last as long and you might need to take it twice a day whereas Lantus can usually be taken daily. There may be modest weight gain with any insulin but it should not be different for the 2 insulins you are asking about. ...Read more

I have type 2 diabetes and take novalog and lantus (insulin glargine). Do these insulins actually cause weight gain?

On metformin bid, lantus (insulin glargine) 40 qd, & novolog tid. Since I started the later im gaining weight. How can I simplify tx w meds dat don't cause weight gain?

How can I say this?: Insulin works by lowering your blood sugar, you know that. But it lowers your blood sugar, by putting the sugar on you. You understand what I mean? A moment on the lips, forever on the hips? Docs raise your Insulin to control your sugar so you can eat what you want, but that doesn't make it right. From a former fatty, I say, eat for one person, not two, and you will find you don't need so many meds. ...Read more

What is special about lantus (insulin glargine) insulin?

Basal insulin: 40% of the Insulin a pancreas makes is done constantly and the other 60% is done to respond to your carbohydrate ingestion (when you eat). What to do if I forgot my lantus (insulin glargine) dose 6 hours ago?

Fair question: Hi. It happens. You can do either of two things. Just use your fast acting insulin (Novolog, Humalog, or Apidra) as needed for the next 18 hours to manage your BG, or take the Lantus (insulin glargine) 6 hours late and your next Lantus (insulin glargine) dose on time, and accept you'll be dose stacking for the first 6 hours of the next dose. Watch your BG carefully during this deviation in your regimen. Good luck! ...Read more

What should I do if I didn't take my once 24 hours lantus (insulin glargine) insulin?

Resuming it ASAP: Diabetes is a result of persistently high sugar over long period of time, but acutely it is much more dangerous to have too low sugar than high. So missing a dose or two of diabetic medicine is not detrimental, but should be kept to a minimum. I suggest resuming your medicine asap. Eat well, exercise regularly, take your meds as prescribed, and see doc regularly as advised. Good luck. ...Read more

What are the benefits of splitting lantus (insulin glargine) into 2 doses as opposed to one?

Lantus (insulin glargine): Is a long acting insulin, is meant to be used once a day. Every patient is unique, so adjustig your regimen is unique as well. Is better to ask your doctor for his/her reason to do split the dose. I am curious as well. The important issue is the total dose you need per day (once, or in divided doses. Again Lantus (insulin glargine) is mainly for once a day due to it long duration). ...Read more
