Baby 4 months old, still struggling with silent reflux. Was given 7, 5 mg prevacid (lansoprazole) 1xday but now less effective. Can i go up to 11, 25 mg. Side effects?
Headache,: Abdominal pain, diarrhea are the most common (albeit infrequent) short time side effects of prevacid (lansoprazole). Long term, high dose, may be associated with osteoporosis, low magnesium, and perhaps GI infections, but the risk is low. Nonetheless, we recommend using this class of drugs in the lowest dose that will control symptoms. If side effects occur, or symptoms do no resolve, you should see a doctor. ...Read more
What serious side effects are possible with prolonged use of Lanzoprazole? I am in process of giving regular gaps in taking this medication.
Many side effects: Prolonged use of PPIs ( lansoprazole is one of them) can cause bone demineralization,enteric infections, community acquired pneumonia & reduced circulating VitaminB12 levels. Try deglycyrrhizinated licorice- DGL- does not cause elevation of BP.- 1-2 tablets 4-6 times daily to be chewed as needed. Get DGL from reputable source like Willner chemists in NY,NY.Can use pure aloe liq for discomfort. ...Read more

I have been prescribed a 7 day treatment of prevacid, (lansoprazole) amoxic.& clarth. for H pylori but can't withstand the side effects. Any alternative treatment ?
Treat the H.pylori: If helicobacter pylori has been documented in association with your ulcer, then treatment of it is requisite.Not treating this bacteria places you at risk for ulcer non-healing, ulcer recurrence, & even stomach cancer.There are a number of antibiotic combinations that work quite effectively in eradicating the infection but all of them have side effects & are pretty strong to fight this tough bug. ...Read more
