Fever, flu symptoms after taking a prevacid (lansoprazole). Fever only lasted 2-3 hrs and never returned. I've taken it before. Side effect? Coincidence?
Coincidence.: While any medication can have side effects (including flu like symptoms) very few can cause fever. My guess is that you had a virus that has now passed. The way to know for sure would be to take the medication again. If the symptoms soon return, then it was the medication; if they do not, then it was coincidence. ...Read more
I'm weening myself off Prevacid (lansoprazole) with the help of a Betaine/Pepsin HCL pill every morning. It helps but I now have heart palpitations. Side effect?
Betaine HCL/pepsin: There are no reported cases on palpitations but theoretically the pepsin/HCL combo could have negative vagal feedback (vagus stimulation produces pepsin on our stomach). The vagus nerve via parasympathetic stmulation slows the heart and if it is inhibited there could be increase heart rate. You could try stopping the meds and seeing if palpitations stop. If side effects occur, or symptoms do no resolve, you should see a

Treat the H.pylori: If helicobacter pylori has been documented in association with your ulcer, then treatment of it is requisite.
