Contusion: This sounds like a contusion/bruise. If just a bruise, you should recover within 1-2 weeks. Rest, ice and ibuprofen or naproxen can help reduce symptoms. Have it x-rayed: If you are getting constant pain that radiates, you should have it x-rayed, it could have a fracture or it could be ligamentous injury. You may need it immobilized for a short time to allow it to calm down then start range of motion exercises as soon as you can tolerate them . You can take an antiinflamatory to help with the discomfort. If there is a fracture you would need it immobilized longer. ...Read more
For now: Apply an ice pack, keep it elevated and stay off it. If it's just a simple sprain, you'll feel better tomorrow. If you don't, you need an x-ray, so bring your ankle to either a podiatrist or an orthopedist, both of whom will have x-rays in their office (better than an er), so you can get diagnosed and treated properly. See a different MD: Have you ever had a MVA in the past like 1-10 years ago ? Is this on the R or the L, or both, knees. All around, lateral, medial, anterior, posterior, any other joints are involved ?, shoulders, lower back,etc. Have you seen a Dr.?, Have you had X rays ? are you on medications?, Do you have a diagnosis.
