D/C running& jumping: At least until you have figured out why it hurts stop doing the things that cause pain. Maybe it is a simple problem that requires only some tincture of time, but maybe iris a sign of more serious damage that requires some professional attention. Go to see MD: You need to go to see your md to get checked. You could injure/tear your ligament/s or other soft tissue on the knee. Need more evaluation. Meanwhile, you can help yourself-by putting some ice packs, nsaids, elastic band/knee cap protection and don't do too much jumping exercise that may make it worse. A few thoughts: Osteoarthritis or degenerative wear down of your cartilage is a weight bearing problem and mostly hurts when you bear weight on it. Meniscus tears generally hurt when you put weight on it, squat, twist, turn, rise from a chair or do stairs. Torn Meniscus?: That sounds like a meniscus tear, cartilage in your knee. The tore fragment is getting pinched causing pain and locking. See your doctor and will get MRI. This can be repaired but if left can cause more damage. The repair is usually done through a small scope so recovery is quick. INFLAMMATION: This sounds like mild inflammation of the supporting muscles and tendons of the patella ( kneecap). Many causes are possible:if you are exercising- remember to warm up and cool down.
