Do you know the benefits to not packing a lanced abscess and is it a good way to heal?

Do you know the benefits to not packing a lanced abscess and is it a good way to heal?

Needs packing: The abscess cavity needs to have a light wicking from packing material, but it does not have to be jammed packed with the packing material. If you don't keep the top open from an abscess, you run the risk of having that close up before the abcess cavity gets to fill in.

How do I prevent the clean dressing on a lanced abscess from sticking to the packing and pulling it out?

How do I prevent the clean dressing on a lanced abscess from sticking to the packing and pulling it out?

Vaseline gauze: You can find Vaseline gauze at drug store. Cover wound with that first then the bandage will not stick to gauze

How can I get help packing lanced peri-anal abscess?

How can I get help packing lanced peri-anal abscess?

Sensitive subject: You can try doing it yourself with a mirror. A family member or close friend could also help. Another option is for your doctor to arrange a home visiting nurse. It is important to do the dressing changes properly, so the wound will heal correctly.

Yes: It's a very good idea to use dial wash the area, pat it dry and if u were to use the silver gel, use a very thin layer, making certain that u have no silver allergy.

Perianal fistula?: If the abscess recurs in pretty much the same spot each time, there's a good chance the underlying problem is a perianal fistula. In other words, a defect in the rectum burrowing toward the skin. If so, more extensive surgery may be required to remove it. Ask your doctor about it.

How long after an abscess lance can you return to work?

Depends: Depends on what kind of work you do, where it was lanced, how large it was, and if there were any complications or surrounding infection. Some I send the next day, some weeks later.

I got an abscess lanced. I went for a wound check up and they decided not to repack it and I'll just pull some out each day and cut it is that normal?

Depends: It depends how deep the abscess is and if it is loci later or not. The wiser coarse is to see your doc and follow your symptoms to make sure that your infection does not recur.

I had an abscess lanced and packed 2 days ago in ER by a PA. The abscess is even bigger and more painfull! Is it possible she overpacked it?

I had an abscess lanced and packed 2 days ago in ER by a PA. The abscess is even bigger and more painfull! Is it possible she overpacked it?

Abscess: Often abcess can have multiple septa and the PA may not have broken all of them and you may have a cavity that is growing. Increasing pain and size is concerning. Based on location you may need a formal surgerical intervention. Best of seek care and see if a surgeon can examine and determine what need to be done. Abx are needed for a short duration of the abcess is opened up.

The morning after having an abscess lanced, is it normal for area to be sore?

The morning after having an abscess lanced, is it normal for area to be sore?

Yes: An abscess is accompanied by inflammation. The drainage removes fluid (pus) associated with an infection, but the inflammation remains for a while after the drainage procedure. In fact, the drainage can cause more inflammation. Pain is a typical sign/symptom of inflammation. It should subside in a short time.

I just had an abscess lanced at the emergency room, but my face is even more swollen and red and the abscess is still there. Is this normal?

Abscesses/Cellulitis: An abscess is a collection of pus usually from a bacterial infection. When an abscess is lanced the collection of pus is released, but the bacterial infection, in this case *cellulitis, can probably still be there with the symptoms. Antibiotics usually resolve this and pus exits through the wound as the condition resolves. Local care with soap and water is recommended. No improvement, see PCP.

I had an abscess lanced 2 days ago near my groin area. It doesn't hurt much but it's still draining like crazy. I was told to remove the packing?

Wound care: It's true that you don't want to leave packing in place for too long-it will start to smell and become really grungy, so it must be changed. If it's already been 2 days, it REALLY needs to be changed now, particularly if it's foul. I hope they gave you some gauze or something to replace the packing with. Otherwise I would call right away for proper wound management. You don't want to neglect it.

Should I lance a dental gum boil (abscess) at home and just start taking amoxicillin?

Should I lance a dental gum boil (abscess) at home and just start taking amoxicillin?

No: This is way to difficult to do looking in a mirror, I would be concerned that you could do quite a bit of damage in your attempt. This is a dental problem, you need to see your dentist asap to determine the exact cause of your abscess and perform the correct treatment and only prescribe the correct dose of the right medication. See photo, this is a problem.

Should I lance a dental gum boil (abscess) at home? I just began amoxicillin yesterday?

Should I lance a dental gum boil (abscess) at home? I just began amoxicillin yesterday?

No: The "gum boil" is the result of infection trying to move to the area of least resistance. If you pop it at home without supervision then you risk spreading the infection. Amoxicillin typically takes 2 - 3 days to work. If it is not painful then be patient for a couple of days, it may go away. If not call your healthcare provider.

Had a abscess lanced on my face yesterday, right above my lip the size of a silvr dollr. Should it still be swollen, red, hard and have puss coming out?

Had a abscess lanced on my face yesterday, right above my lip the size of a silvr dollr. Should it still be swollen, red, hard and have puss coming out?

Abscess swelling: It will take more than one day for the drainage and swelling to so side. If the situation worsens, or if it doesn't improve after 3-5 days, let your physician know. Warm soaks may be helpful.
