I may have inhaled a lot of raid mosquito spray and now I have a dry cough that won't go away with cough syrup. What medications do I need?

Raid is the problem: The raid spray is irriating your mucous membrane from inhalation, and if gargling with saline rinses don't help, you can call the poison control center (for your state), and they will give you antidotes. Don't believe that cough syrup will work, as it's primarily sugar with some expectorant. Don't delay, so you can start feeling better. ...Read more

My 22year old daughter has a 2nd degree sunburn. We have neen treating it with liticane & alovera spray and oral pain medication.?

Sounds good: You can overdose on lidocaine, though, so be careful. Also, second degree means blisters -- if you can, do not pop them. The fluid inside is sterile. It's better if they deflate on their own. Once they open, the roof should be removed to avoid infection, and the wounds covered with topical antibiotic (neosporin or silvadene) to decrease scarring. ...Read more

Does using grapefruit oil, extract, mist, or spray topically on the body or inhaling it interact with ssri medication?

Does using grapefruit oil, extract, mist, or spray topically on the body or inhaling it interact with ssri medication?

Probably transiently: The issue with grapefruit and other medications is that it competes for the same activating enzymes as the medication. Grapefruit inhibits the activating enzyme p450 thereby increasing the effect of any medications using that same enzyme such as certain types of ssri's. This effect is transient and limited to the amount of grapefruit taken in. In the case of topical and inhaled it's probably smal ...Read more

How can I avoid nasal steroid sprays giving me perioral dermatitis? Started after 1 yr of use. No other medication helps for my chronic PND/rhinitis.

I don't see: A relationship between perioral dermatitis and steroid nasal spray! Please see your doctor or dermatologist for help. As for your PND/rhinitis, you don't want to go for a year on the same medication without doctor's supervision, you may need other medicine/intervention, best wishes ...Read more

What can you do for nasal inflamation (congestion) outside of common allergy medication. Nasal sprays don't agree with me, sinus rinses don't help.?

What can you do for nasal inflamation (congestion) outside of common allergy medication. Nasal sprays don't agree with me, sinus rinses don't help.?

Have you been tested: Nasal congestion can be allergic or nonallergic. If you are allergic, you have lots of options, like avoiding triggers, different prescription allergy meds, or even allergy shots. You need to be allergy tested to see if any these can help. If you are nonallergic, then the best medicines are nasal sprays, although decongestants like pseudo Ephedrine can help. ...Read more

I felt some pain in my ear after I used Flonase. I did two sprays in each nostril. Will the pain go away when the medication wears off?

Not expected: Flonase does not usually cause ear pain. The only thing I can think of is that you were aiming the spray directly to the back and thus hitting the eustachean tube opening but even that is an unlikely scenario. Try aiming the nozzle towards the side walls of the nose instead of the center and let me know if this helps. ...Read more

I used Flonase last night two sprays in each nostril & I don't like the feeling I got in my ears. How long does it take for medication to wear off?

Maybe a day, but...: Flonase sprayed into the nose should not cause a bad feeling in the ears. If a bad feeling happens, it may be a coincidence. Be sure the Flonase tip is not plugging the entire nostril when spraying. There is not a direct connection from the nostrils to the ears. Sometimes, we try Flonase in sinus-congestion patients to help the ears normalize their pressures if the ears seem pressurized. ...Read more

My wife is constantly coughing and the medication she is on isn't working. It's a wet cough but the last doctor did not prescribe anti biotics. What must we do next. She is on a Multi vitamin, nose spray and antihistamine?

Revisit or: Second opinion are needed. Not all coughs require antibiotics: 80++% of upper respiratory infections are viral. More importantly is cough control and several excellent Rxs are available. Until seen again use Delsym DB every 13 hrs if not allergic to this medicine. ...Read more

I've been prescribed Dymista, an expensive brand name allergy nasal spray drug. Is there a cheaper, generic alternative that does the same thing?

Individual drugs: It's fluticasone propionate and azelastine combo. First is OTC now, second needs Rx, but cheap; call doc for a script. I know other docs have their patients mix them (or other steroid nose sprays) together in same bottle, but that's totally off label - and I have no idea if they are compatible, so I personally do not recommend it. Just use one, then use the other. ...Read more

Saline nasal allergy spray called asteoto. It's main ingredient is azelastine hcl. Could that show up on my drug test?

No, but sedating: Tons of meds cause false-positive results in drug tests. It depends on the actual testing reagents. Here's just one ex: http://www. Pharmacologyweekly. Com/articles/drug-classes-cause-false-positive-urine-drug-screen. Be honest reporting all meds, even if they won't show. Your antihistamine drops are considered sedating, so may be prohibited if you are a pilot/ATC. Consider montelukast. Works well. ...Read more

What nasal spray has least side affects. I have allergic asthma. Nose runs clear all day. Cannot take flonase. Very senstive to most drugs. Low immune?

What nasal spray has least side affects. I have allergic asthma. Nose runs clear all day. Cannot take flonase. Very senstive to most drugs. Low immune?

Technique: Please tell us why you couldn't tolerate flonase? Most of adverse reactions are from improper spray technique which should be aiming towards the side and not the center of the nose. If you get nosebleeds from all inhaled steroid despite correct technique, try an antihistamine spray. If this too failed, some people may respond to a leukotriene blocker. See an allergist if problem persists. ...Read more

Can adderall or Afrin nasal spray or a generic form of claritin d cause a positive methamphetamine result on a drug test?

Can adderall or Afrin nasal spray or a generic form of claritin d cause a positive methamphetamine result on a drug test?

Pseudoephedrine: Since the D in Claritin had been used to manufacture methamphetamine, I would suspect that it will produce a positive drug test. As for Afrin nasal spray, it is difficult to tell since any absorption would be minor and thus likely detectable only with extremely sensitive method. I hope other members in this panel will jump in on this topic. ...Read more
