Lamictal And Periods
Check w/ your doctor: While not impossible, it's difficult to explain how Lamictal would cause you to miss your period. If you're taking an estrogen supplement, Lamictal will speed up elimination of estrogen. Just as likely, however, the condition for which you take Lamictal (epilepsy, bipolar, anxiety) could upset your cycle, causing a missed period. Check with your treating physician, in any case. ...Read more

Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. Have IIH, and irregular periods. I am taking Lithium, Wellbutrin, (bupropion) and Lamictal. I randomly feel aroused, don't know why. Is the medicine or IIH cause?
IIH?: If you are speaking of Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension one must consider replacing the Lithium with something else. Lamictal is a good mood stabilizer for Bipolar Disease. If you are on a stable dose of at least 75 mg twice a day you may be able to taper off the lithium. Zonegran is a weak carbonic anhydrase inhibitor like Topamax (topiramate) and usually has fewer psychiatric side effects. ...Read more

I take 150 mg lamactil bid and 50 mcg of levothyroxine q day. My period was two weeks ago. Now I have a light brown discharge. I've been on these med a?
Possible connection: The intermenstrual or breakthrough bleeding you're having could or could not be related to these medications. If you are on the right amounts, than likely it's more of a hormonal fluctuation than a problem with the meds. As we age, there tends to be more breakthrough bleeding. If it continues and worries you, see a doctor and make sure your TSH is at right level and Lamictal too. Best of luck! ...Read more

Side effects: All medications unfortunately have the potential for side effects. Seroquel could POTENTIALLY be affecting your periods. It's important to review the medications and make sure that the benefits are outweighing any side effects you might be experiencing. ...Read more

Bad hives, and more: Lamictal can cause a rare but sometimes fatal allergic reaction called S.J.S., E.M. Major, or T.E.N. I like Lamictal:
As a psychiatrist I prescribe Lamictal for its fda approved use in bipolar disorder. When used appropriately (slow titration monitoring for rash) I have found it to be safe and effective.
It has a favorable side effect profile with little to no effect on libido or weight.
