Chronic impactions and constipation bc of long term opioid use, tried miralax, (polyethylene glycol) lactulose, no help. How's methylnaltrexone?
3 1/2 yr old with constipation...Is miralax (polyethylene glycol) safe? If so, what is recommended dosage?
Ckd patient with hyponatremia. Is it safe to take 650 mg sodium bicarbonate with 40 mg lasix (furosemide) to prevent water retention? Is sodium bicarbonate renoprotective?
Depends: Bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate)) is not reno-protective. However, high acid levels in the blood affect heart function, muscle function and kidney function. Reducing the blood acid level (seen by a rising bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) level or pH level) improves muscle function including the heart which improves kidney circulation. It also allows the kidneys to better control potassium levels. You can help the process by avoiding sodas! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

As with any laxative however understand its mechanism of action, its risks, & treatment goals & make sure you are not missing obstruction, dysmotility, inflammation ...Read more

Yes: However most cases of constipation would be better helped if one increases there fluid intake and reduces their caffeine and alcohol intake and by doing so, may not need to use miralax (polyethylene glycol). Proper fluid intake is critical is less expensive than miralax (polyethylene glycol). If you mistakenly add more fiber when you are getting enough in your diet you may worsen the constipation.
