Urine culture: Would really need to see the results of the urinalysis, but from what you describe the Lactobacillus is likely to have been a vaginal contaminant, rather than a urinary tract pathogen. You need to have an assisted clean midstream catch urine for culture, along with a urinalysis. This does not sound, at least superficially, like you need antibiotics, but without further info, difficult to be sure. ...Read more

... ask doc...: Lactobacillus is the main bacteria of vaginal normal flora to keep proper acidity inside vagina; so, this finding is simply related with contamination, which can be avoided with proper cleansing and holding the labia open... How do u treat urine positive for alpha hemolytic streptococcus and lactobacillus? Positive nitrates

How do u treat urine positive for alpha hemolytic streptococcus and lactobacillus? Positive nitrates

No treatment needed: These bacteria do not cause urinary tract infection. They come from your vagina or labia, i.e. the urine specimen was not a true "clean catch". THe positive nitrates may mean you have a UTI, but if so it is due to other bacteria that apparently were missed on culture. Discuss next steps with your doctor. ...Read more

I have been detected to have cytstitis cystica and my latest urine report is perfectly ok. What treatment is advised and how much time will it take fo?

Cystitis cystica: Cystitis cystica is a benign (noncancerous) change that is thought to be a reaction to irritation and not a specific disease of its own. Sometimes it forms a small bump or a polyp-like area. Therefore a urologist might biopsy it to make sure it is not cancer. There is no evidence that it becomes cancerous over time. So it may not need to be cured unless there are other bladder problems. ...Read more
