Lactobacillus Gasseri Probiotic
Are probiotics (lactobacillus planetarium 299v 10 billion cfu) safe and/or beneficial for somebody to take that is recovering from acute pancreatitus?
Conflicting research: Some studies have shown benefits and some have shown harm! the study that showed harm involved infusing probiotics directly into the small intestines in patients ill with very severe pancreatitis. See http://www.Criticalcarenutrition.Com/docs/manuscript_editorial_probiotics_in_pancreatitis.Pdf however, there is no evidence of harm in taking oral probiotics while recovering. Probiotics, by definition, are beneficial bacteria that live in our intestinal tract to help us maintain health intestines and colon. There are several species of these bacteria that are helpful to us including lactobacillus acidophilus. The meats we eat contain antibiotics that kill our natural bacteria that reside in our gut. Today, you will replace these ...Read more
Do and can lactobacillus help with tonsil stones , can probiotics help too please help am desperate?
Can lactobacillus help with tonsil stones , can probiotics help too, or what do you recomend please help?
Oral hygiene: There are really no medications, or diet that can prevent tonsil stones. They are calcified debris from the mouth and to some extent the nasal cavity. Preventing accumulation of debris in you mouth with salt water rinses after meals, good oral hygiene, (including tongue scraping), and nasal lavages if congestion is present, can help. If dramatic symptoms persist, tonsil removal is an option. ...Read more
Probiotics gives lactobacillus acidophillus & bifidobacterium. Whey: beta lactoglobulin & alpha lactalbumin. Can both provide similar benefits?
No: Probiotics and whey provide different benefits. They both have "lacto" in their names, which may be the source of your confusion. Lacto means related to milk. Lactobacillus is a bacteria that can grow in dairy products. Whey is the thin, clear liquid that is left when milk has curdled; it is high in protein. Probiotics are good for intestinal health. Whey is primarily a protein source. ...Read more
CSA and OATS tests show high levels of lactobacillus in small intestine. and colon, low bifido in colon. Should i take probiotics with lactobacillus?
Any symptoms?: What do you expect the probiotics to do for you. There is little objective evidence for the usefulness of such treatments. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

Lactose intolerance: I see your confusion but lactobacillus is a probiotic bacteria, not a sugar. Lactose intolerance (difficulty digesting milk sugar) can be secondary to lactase enzyme deficiency, or due to a bigger problem of small bowel inflammation, infection, infiltrative disease, and/or maldigestion. Don't assume its lactose intolerance unless tested, or at least assessed response to lactase enzyme replacement. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What kind of probitics or lactobacillus should I take for bacterial vaginosis? Is it true that plain, common yogurt may help?
Is fem dophilus safe in pregnancy it's a probiotic with lactobillus forms I want to take it to guard against BV . I will take it orally. ?
Yes: Probiotics do not enter the blood stream, they stay in the GI tract. So they should have no effect on the fetus. And the bacteria in the probiotic should not cause trouble in the vaginal area. If you're concerned, consult your OB during your next visit and let them know what you're taking. You should of course do that anyways. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I am lactose intollerantand have acidity problem, can I take probiotic lactobacilus when I have upset stomach ?
Help with what?: Probiotics MAY help. They are usually still alive, if stored properly all the time from production, through shipping, to being on the store shelf. The living microorganisms get weaker and die over time. The problem is that nobody can really tell how much live material was in the package to start, how much is alive when one buys it, how much survives at home, nor how much goes to one's intestine. ...Read more
Most people: I am an advocate of probiotics. The gut lining has a difficult time maintaining the balance of healthy bacteria with stress, disease, poor sleep, poor nutrition, antibiotic or medication use. Recent studies have shown benefits even pregnant patients. Probiotics can help with immune function, regulate constipation/diarrhea, bloating, help with GI diseases and even skin conditions. ...Read more
Pro mean with: and bio means life. Probiotics help the GI system digest food. Anti means against. So, if one takes excessive antibiotics (which are sometimes needed) they can kill off the good bacteria in our GI systems and we can have digestive problems. This can happen w/out antibiotics at times too. So, the probiotics replace the good bacteria that are missing or low. Look for multiple strain products. ...Read more
Yogurt tastes better: These contain the "good organisms" living symbiotically with you. Certain condition such as use of antibiotics often kill-off too many of these good bugs and leave us more susceptible to illness from other bad bugs. Probiotics basically replace some of the loss of the good bug and hopefully restore the balance. Both are safe, but yogurts taste better? And contain calciums/vitamins. Good luck. ...Read more
