L Tyrosine Hypothyroidism Hair Loss
Yes, if deficient: Our bodies produce thyroid hormone by combining tyrosine with iodine. Thus, if one is deficient in tyrosine it might cause hypothyroidism. Our body synthesizes tyrosine from phenylalanine, so that deficiency (which is not unusual) can also cause hypothyroidism. If low in tyrosine then supplementing should help: http://ezinearticles. Hair loss, otherwise known as alopecia, can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles or fungal infections. There are two main types of alopecia. Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic (or androgenic) alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. With alopecia areata, hair can fall out in patches all over the body. With androgenetic alopecia, hair on the head first thins and then falls out. In men, this is called male pattern hair loss; in women, it is called ...Read more
With hypothyroidism, does l-tyrosine raise or lower thyroid levels if your at a stable level? (on synthroid) I want to use it for mood support. Thanks
Hypothyroidism. 2500 mcg biotin daily. I just started taking dobble dose. Reason hair loss. Is that too much?! thanks in advance
Biotin: Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin, so excess amounts in your blood get filtered out by the kidneys and don't accumulate, so there is low risk of toxicity. Biotin is unproven in improving hair loss, so increasing doses above standard supplements is unlikely to provide any additional benefit. Biotin occurs naturally in leafy green vegetables, particularly swiss chard, and peanuts. ...Read more
Can hair loss/thinning due to hypothyroidism or low serum ferritin levels be reversed once those problems are treated and corrected?
Thyroid: Hair change due to low thyroid is treated with thyroid replacement. Rogaine [minoxidil] will contribute very little. Treat whatever thyroid disease is present. Note that there might also be a separate reason for hair change. Age? Menstrual and pregnancy status? Meds and supplements? Birth control? Illness, injuries, fevers in last 6 months? Severe weight change? Family history? Exact details of ty ...Read more

Hypothyroid after adding raw broccoli to diet last year, quit eating it 2 months ago and my symptoms cleared up apart from hair loss, will it regrow?
FORGET ALL THIS: Broccoli, raw or cooked, has nothing to do with thyroid. In fact, NO FOOD CAUSES LOW THYROID. You neglected to mention why you think you had hypothyroid or what your symptoms were. Look around and see how many men your age have lost scalp hair. If you think you have a medical problem, see a Dr. ...Read more
Please suggest me treatment for hair loss due to use of steroids. I also have hypothyroidism and undergone splenectomy..
Hair loss: What sort of steroids did you use—anabolic or glucocorticoid? The former increase testosterone & may thus increase hair loss; the other type is used to treat hair loss. Hypothyroidism can be associated with hair loss as well. Stress of surgery might also explain hair loss. Suggest seeing an endocrinologist to check levels out & determine actual cause of hair loss & offer treatment options. ...Read more
When I was hypothyroid (n didn't knw abt it), I had taken Diane 35 for my acne n hair loss. N it helped. But I heard bcps r bad for hypo women?
They're not bad: BCP are not any different for hypothyroid women than for any other woman: they are safe. Women who should not take BCP - regardless of thyroid - are those over 35, with hypertension, smokers, and concerns about estrogen-dependent growths. Thyroid patients are no different, good wishes. ...Read more

Will taking pumpkin seed oil supplements 1000mg for hair loss, negatively effect my thyroid functioning? I have hypothyroidism taking 75mcg synthyroid
Not studied: Hi. No one has studied the effect of pumpkin seed oil (PSO) on thyroid function; just like no one has studied its effect on hair loss! So take PSO to your heart's content; you're enriching some snake oil salesperson, but I seriously doubt it will have any effect on your thyroid function tests or l-thyroxine dose. Good luck! ...Read more
My TSH fluctuates goes to 5.5 with 12.5 mcg comes down to. 27 on 25mcg. Anti thyroid antibodies +ve. How to titrate. Only hair loss no hypothyroid symp?
Dosing: Hi. Most systems are not that sensitive! I would suggest trying 12.5 mcg on even days of the month and 25 mcg on odd days of the mont. This will give you an average daily dose of 18.75 mcg, and should give you a nice, normal TSH. But to reiterate, most systems are not that sensitive. Make sure you're well equilibrated (dose at least 6 weeks) before testing. Good luck! ...Read more
My TSH is 6.43 and T4 is 15 I have most hypothyroid symptoms; fatigue, migraines, hair loss, extreme cold&prolactin level of 2200. Should I be treated?
Needs further testin: I am concerned that your prolactine is high. I would recomend further eavluation. Your symptoms could also be explained by the source of elevated prolactine. ...Read more
If a hypothyroid woman is on birth control pills alone (no levothyroxine), would it improve some of her symptoms like acne or hair loss?
Odd question: If she has low thyroid she will clearly benefit from thyroid therapy. Why not??? The specific type of birth control is significant. Some hormones reduce acne and improve hair problems. Some hormones (androgenic progesterones) aggravate acne and cause loss of scalp hair. All 3 of your meds reduce acne and reduce loss of scalp hair. For polycystic ovary, weight loss and perhaps metformin are useful. ...Read more
I'm symptomatic of hypothyroid (hair loss, fatigue, cold, fuzzy head...) TSH=3.73 and T4=14. My Dr has said it can't be Thyroid. Is this correct?
I'm hypothyroid. When on birth control alone, I noticed dat my acne &hair loss improved little. Is dis pos? Iv heard dat bcps worsen thyroid problems?
BCP and thyroid: BCP do not worsen thyroid problems. Presumably you are taking levothyroxine for your hypothyroidism. BCP increases the amount of thyroid binding protein in the blood. In some of the older blood tests, this altered some of the values, but if a TSH or FT4 is measured, there is no problem with interpretation of lab values. ...Read more
2 yrs of fatigue, weakness, weigh gain, hair loss, hyperpigmentation (face hands groin), high creatinine, low BP, memory loss, treated hypothyroid. Please help!
My TSH - 3.2, free T4 - 1.02, free T3 (liothyronine) - 2.9; hypothyroidism? I have some symptoms (fatigue, hair loss...)but I realize it could be from something else
Likely something: Else. Your thyroid function test results are not a likely explanation for your symptoms. Please note that all laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. ...Read more
Hi, im hypothyroid for the last 3 yrs n my reports r fine since 2.5yrs now after taking levothyroxine. Cud I still be losing hair bcoz of my thyroid?
Usually not thyroid: Thyroid hormone excess and deficiency can both lead to hair loss. Normalizing thyroid levels usually resolves this. People with autoimmune thyroid disease are also at higher risk for autoimmune alopecia areata, which is patchy hair loss. However there are many other causes of non-thyroid related hair loss, such as anemia, stress, weight loss, pregnancy, and many other conditions.... ...Read more
So scared to take estra noreth for menopause. Already losing hair gaining weight. I'm hypothyroid too. Will it help?
Yes it will help: Menopause is defined as no period for 12 months. I am assuming you meet these criteria. "hair loss" is a common complaint as women age. The term for it is "androgenic alopecia" and it has as much to do with decreased hair caliber as decreased hair number. Hormone replacement therapy will likely slow this process. Also check with your doctor and make sure your thyroid has been tested! ...Read more
