L Lysine Cold Sores Dosage
1000-3000 mg/day: There have been only a few studies on this. They do show that l-lysine is highly effective for preventing cold sores. Some studies used doses of 1000 mg 3x/day while others used as little as 1000 mg/day. I usually advise 1500 mg/day. If you still get cold sores try raising the dose- lysine is quite safe. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Cold sore: Acyclovir is a drug used to treat herpes virus infections. Many cold sores are caused by herpes virus and will respond to such treatment. However, not all cold sores are caused by herpes. In this case, the cold sore may not respond to the treatment. The good news in all this, most cold sores get better within a couple of weeks, even without treatment. Keep it moist with ointment. This helps. ...Read more
Either: I'm assuming you're talking about oral Valtrex (valacyclovir) and zovirax (not zovirax cream). Both are effective, but Valtrex (valacyclovir) is more convenient, because it doesn't have to be taken as frequently. My favorite way to treat cold sores is to have the patient take 2 grams of Valtrex (valacyclovir) at the very first sign of an outbreak, and then 2 grams 12 hours later. That two-dose course will shorten the duration of infection. ...Read more

Cold sores that keep multiplying even with use of cold sore cream & taking vit B supplements. What to do?
Should I take lysine for my chronic cold sores? If so, as treatment or to prevent? Dosage? Currently take Valtrex (valacyclovir) and use Abreva.
Pay attention: Abreva does very little, not worth the money. l-Lysine is an old scam: it did nothing 40 years ago and it does nothing now. Simple understanding of biochemistry of amino acids is enough to dispel this silly scam. See a dermatologist. Are you sure it is herpes? Valacyclovir can be helpful if dosed properly and is safe. Usual dose is 2gram at very first prodromal symptoms of each attack. Sometimes d ...Read more
Yes: Orajel is only a topical benzocaine, which numbs the area and helps alleviate the pain. It does not cure the cold sores. It just make the cold sores less painful and easier to deal with. Cold sore is viral, and should go away on its own in 3-5 days, as long as no bacterial superinfection. Keep the area clean. ...Read more
Be Careful: It is important to know that "cold sores" are caused by a virus called the Herpes virus. They are easily spread from one person to another. A canker sore, or Aphtous ulcer, is probably caused by an autoimmune reaction (the body fighting itself) Medicine for one of these is not intended for the other type of mouth sore. The anbesol cream is probably mostly for numbing the sore. ...Read more
Both work well!: Everyone responds differently to different anti-viral medications! i usually start by prescribing zovirax (acyclovir) and see how a person responds! i often have the patient take 5 capsules a day and also have them apply the ointment to the lesion topically! if that doesn't help, we'll try valtrex! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Increasing HGH with l-lysine, l-arginine, gaba, melatonin. Can i take 3000mg lysine, 3000mg arginine, 5mg melatonin, 3000mg GABA in every night daily?
Why are you doing: This. It is unlikely to do anything to increase your height and may have side effects you wish you did not have. I hope my endocrinology colleagues will weigh in on this one and lay it out straight. You are not going to grow, but your wallet will get thinner. Best wishes. ...Read more
L (levo) lysine...: ...is a natural amino acid, present in greater or lesser amounts in all proteins. Sold as a health supplement, but there are no proved benefits. Sometimes recommended by some non-scientific sources for herpes, but lysine has no benefit in treating or preventing herpes outbreaks. The dose probably doesn't matter much; take whatever the label says. It would be difficult to take enough to be harmful. ...Read more
