Medicine, traditional chinese medicine, chiropractic manipulation, and energy healing --which is legit?

All legit at times: Obviously "medicine is "legit" but that does not mean it is the only valid approach & many conditions are not helped much by conventional medicine. There is scientific research confirming that tcm, chir. Is using massage oil effective during a breast enlargement massage?

Is using massage oil effective during a breast enlargement massage?

No : Oils and massages will not enlarge breasts. The breasts enlarge naturally with weight gain, puberty, pregnancy and breast-feeding. Some oral contraceptives can be associated with increase in breast size in some women (sometimes). Building up pectoral muscles can lead to the breasts sitting on the chest wall in a manner that is attractive but will not increase cup size. ...Read more

If massage benefits pain relief, does fancy massage oil enhance those effects at all?

If massage benefits pain relief, does fancy massage oil enhance those effects at all?

Not necessarily: Massage can be useful in managing myofascial type pain. It promotes relaxing spastic muscles and may also improve blood flow in the muscle. The latter can further enhance tissue healing if there is injury to the muscle. Adding oil may enhance the experience and decrease rough friction on the skin which may be irritating otherwise. However, it may not directly improve the benefit on its own. ...Read more

Anything special about reflexology vs a massage?

Anything special about reflexology vs a massage?

No: Reflexology is completely bogus. It has no basis in fact whatsoever. Reflexologists have no training in anything medical or anatomical. A reflexologist is either woefully ignorant if he believes that what he does is real, or dishonest if he knows it isn't. Either way, it's claptrap. I love foot massages, but I don't delude myself that they give me anything more than a good feeling. ...Read more

Do any of these natural remedies improve poor blood circulation?
L-Arginine, Vitamin K2, Gotu Kola, butchers broom, parsley, cayenne pepper, ginger root, etc. I have Raynaud's Syndrome.

Raynaud's Syndrome: Please do what your doc says but consider a natural approach. Neo 40 is a beet root product to help circulation and has some research suggesting usefulness in Raynaud's. The pain may also be from neuropathy and sublingual vitamin B12 can be used to help w/that. See your doc or a nutritionist. Peace and good health. Beet root better than l-arginine. ...Read more

Should a shiatsu massage therapist take a complementary and alternative medicine course?

Should a shiatsu massage therapist take a complementary and alternative medicine course?

Why would s/he?: Someone already trained in shiatsu massage is presumably competent to practice his/her own area of complementary and alternative medicine (cam). Unless s/he wants to also learn about other treatments and systems of healing that are part of cam, it seems unnecessary. An "overview" course in cam would probably be less in depth in any one area than needed to really practice that modality well. ...Read more

Can massage therapy help fibromyalgia?

Can massage therapy help fibromyalgia?

Not the way you mean: Fibromyalgia is a brain problem, not a joint, muscle, tendon or bursa problem. Massage doesn't "help" fibromyalgia the way it may help muscular soreness after vigorous exertion. The pleasurable sensation merely acts as a counter-sensation to fibromyalgia & is only temporary. Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition with no "cure," only symptomatic treatment at the neurochemical level, ...Read more

Is magnesium blend good to take with korean red ginseng? - Also are most products alright with korean red ginseng?

Ginseng ..: I think it says everything that red ginseng is believed to BOTH increase and decrease the immune system. There are not reliable trials on it. It is not possible to really control what you are getting with it. Magnesium, however, is a mineral and unless they are totally lying, the content of it should be reliable and it can't stale. 200-400 mg/day is good. ...Read more
