Doctor insights on:
Unknown: As is the case for most of these unproven supplements, there are no real studies that demonstrate that they do anything beneficial (despite what you may hear from dr. Oz), and no studies looking at drug interactions. Many people say that it is "natural" since it comes from a plant. Remember that many poisons come from plants as well. ...Read more
NO: Scientific evidence is lacking , and clinical trials were unimpressive, as to its effectiveness for short term weight loss. One garcinia cambogia product was pulled from the market because it caused liver toxicity. I suggest you save your money. There are reports of adverse side effects with the combination. I would not recommend taking Garcinia cambogia, especially if on Accutane. ...Read more
NO Don't use it: Garcinia cambogia is in most weight loss supplements, and can cause liver failure. It was also used in Hydroxycut which was taken off the market as people died from using it. I see a handful of patients per month with abnormal liver tests after using this medicine. I would NOT recommend it. There is no "magic pill" for weight loss. Diet and exercise remain the #1 way to lose weight and keep it off ...Read more

St John's Wort
Sounds like your: mind is racing like a machine gun through all these stimulating supplements that will not relax you, until you understand what is important with ADHD. What activity eases your mind? Meditation? Walking? Contemplation? Do more of these things, rather than ingest more supplements initially. See if these alone can help your mind from racing through thoughts. Then, when you add one thing at a time. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
St. John's wort: St. Johns wort has been shown to be beneficial in treating milder forms of depression. It is not too effective with moderate to severe forms. Not advisable: St John's Wort is a flowering plant of the species Hypericum perforatum. It contains a substance that acts like an SSRI, similar to Prozac or Zoloft (sertraline). SJW has the same problems that all herbal or "natural" compounds have - the concentration of the active ingredient is unknown, and such compounds are often heavily contaminated with aspirin-like compounds, or worse (e.g., heavy metals). ...Read more
