Why would pt use 2lb ankle weight for strengthening leg of a senior recovering from fracture? Hurts knee?
Ankle weights: My answer is that I wouldn't do any exercise that hurts. Pain is a sign that your body doesn't like this. I would reduce the weight (to 1 pound, or even 1/2 a pound) till I found a level of weight which allowed me to do the exercise without pain. Do that for a while, then slowly increase the weight. ...Read more

Have torn ligaments in knee. Can femur actually slip off the top of the tibia? Could something fracture? Using exercise bike & walking for strength.
Torn ligaments: It would be unusual for your femur to slide off your tibia unless you tore all the ligaments around your knee like in a knee dislocation. If you just tore your acl then your knee can be unstable with subluxation of the bones. Sometimes the acl can avulse from the tibia with bone. Exercise and knee strengthening is good for a acl tear and consideration of surgery can be discussed with your doctor. ...Read more

Reevaluation: The Most likely possibilities are that you have ITB syndrome that has failed conservative care, or that the pain is coming from something else, such as a pinched nerve in the back. If you have not had one, an MRI of the lumbar spine as well as the hip itself would likely confirm the diagnosis. Don't hesitate to seek a second opinion to get a fresh set of eyes to look at you as well. ...Read more

Would kroger brand xtra strength pain relief pm be a good over-the-counter drug to take for my knee replacement instead of vicoden?
Possibly: Kroger brand xtra strength pain relief is acetaminophen, which is essentially tylenol. It may be weaker for pain than vicodin, but you will likely have less side effects than the vicodin if you are sensitive to narcotics. If the pain is not severe, I would go with the tylenol. Motrin and Ibuprofen are good over the counter options, but I would not take it constantly for a long time. ...Read more
