Cortisone: Even a properly performed cortisone injection can take up to a week or more to really take effect. If you are having any symptoms of infection, such as redness, warmth at the injection site, drainage, swelling see your doctor for treatment. On the outside of the knee the itb can rub against the lateral epicondyle and cause a form of runner's knee in runners that run a lot of hills. On the inside of the knee one can have pes bursitis.
