Locking not normal: 2 months after arthroscopic knee surgery it is still normal to have some discomfort and mild swelling which can produce popping. As a surgeon, I get concerned if my patients still have locking 2 months after surgery. How long after?: Depends how long ago surgery was, and nature of surgery. If in early post op period (1st 4-6 wks) would not be too concerned as may resolve over time. Also if not associated with pain and not activity limiting likewise would not be concerned. Locking isn't normal: Arthroscopic knee surgery is great to remove torn meniscus cartilage and loose pieces but it is not great to treat symptoms from arthritis. If you do have some arthritis in the knee, you may still experience shifting and popping. The locking is concerning for new loose pieces floating in the knee.
