Knee pain in both knees, cortisone shot in each didn't help, X-rays showed arthritis, could bursitis be a cause also? Need MRI, right?
Not MRI: The xrays already show the reason for your pain. You have arthritis in your knees. An MRI is not going to add much info that is likely to be of any additional benefit. It's now time to work with your doctor to treat and minimize the effects of your arthritis. It may mean anti-inflammatory meds, weight loss, physical therapy, or many more modalities out there for treatment. You know why. Now act! ...Read more
Popping sounds in neck, ear pain, knee pain in both knees, cortisone shot in knees didn't help. Bursitis?
Knee pain and grinding. Have had cortisone shots and synvisc (hylan g-f 20) and still havubs issues. Had been told I have osteoarthritis.
Yes but...: I find that these treatments are less likely to work if you have severe knee arthritis on a standing knee x-ray. For example if you have bone on bone arthritis on x-ray there is about a 50% chance that injections like euflexa, orthovisc, synvisc, (hylan g-f 20) will work. Even if you have severe arthritis, it is reasonable to try a cortisone injection. However only expect temporary relief at best. ...Read more
Knee pain in both knees (Cortisone didn't help), neck clicking sounds when I turn my head. Help! ?
Knee hyper extended from left foot drop, fitted for afo, however knee pain is worse than last two yrs should I see orthopedist, cortisone inj past?
Need more info...: I am wondering if the foot drop has resulted in a plantarflexion contracture. This would be the likely cause of knee hyperextension due to the plantarflexion-knee extension couple. If this is the case and your AFO is set in too much plantarflexion to accomodate this, this could make it worse. On the other hand, you may simply have knee arthritis. I would see your orthopaedist. ...Read more
Knee pain 2yrs rec'd cortisone inj cause from hyperextend knee from foot drop consulted ortho said no more cortisone inj pres meloxicam 7.5mg ideas
Foot drop: Usually (but not always) comes from a problem (compression/severance/injury) to the common peroneal nerve, which runs along the outside of the knee just below it (not the typical place where knee injections are given). Your foot drop may or may have been caused by the injection, but your doctor probably wants to err on the side of caution. ...Read more

What could cause recurring knee fluid with no injury? Drained 2x (cortisone shot both times), scope and still having issues..
I had a cortisone shot in the knee but it only worked for 1 day. Does this mean that it tested positive for something wrong in the knee?
Individual responses: Not everyone responds to intr-articulate cortisteroid injections, and there is no reliable predictor as to who will or won't get relief. The provider who performed the injection can give you information concerning any testing he/she may have performed on the joint fluid, were any withdrawn. Ice the knee regularly three or four times/day and call your provider. Best to you! ...Read more
How long after getting a cortisone shot should it start working because I got a shot in the knee yesterday and it isn't touching the pain?
Cortisone shot time:
Most doctors will inject with both cortisone and a numbing medicine (like novicaine that the dentist uses). This may help remove the pain almost immediately. The cortisone can take several days to "kick in" and often can last as long as 6 weeks or longer.
Depends alot on why and where the shot was placed and of course, the initial diagnosis. ...Read more

About how long after a cortisone shot to the knee should I wait to contact my dr if the pain has substantial increase? It's been 24h.
72hours: Increase pain in the first 24-48 hours is usually a cortisone flair. This is a reaction to the drug. Then the cortisone kicks in. If the pain gets worse after 48-72 hours you must worry about an infection. Seal immediate help then. ...Read more
Had a cortisone shot in knee 4 weeks ago. It did not work as I had a flare. Got a 2nd shot a few days ago. How likely is the 2nd one to work?

Hello I received a cortisone shot in ouiter left knee even though pain is in inner left knee? Proprer protocol? Thank you
Knee injection: There is communication between the outer and inner knee so the medication should go to the inner part of the knee. If you inject the inner knee there's a risk of hitting a nerve blood vessel or injuring the medial meniscus. This is way doctors inject the outer knee first. ...Read more
Knee had some fluid drained+cortisone shot 1.5 weeks ago. Still painful and swelling is the same as when I left. Why? What + can anything be done?
Swollen & pain knee: The high severity of your symptoms may explain why you haven't responded well to this round of treatment. I hate to think the doc missed the trouble spot with the cortisone injection, but you really need more care. Understanding what's causing the problem in the first place may better help your treatment. For example were you checked for Lyme? There are more aggressive treatments out there BTW. ...Read more
