Is it possible for recurring knee infections to make you deaf?

Yes: It is possible, but extremely rare for this to happen. Bacteria that cause knee infections typically are not involved in meningitis or ear infections, so it is rare but not impossible. Chronic treatment with antibiotics may make you more susceptible to other bacteria, which can cause hearing problems. Also some antibiotics have direct side effects that affect hearing. ...Read more

Had a knee revision after infection from TKR surgery. Have been diagnosed as irritated IT band. Have been doing stretching, exercise, and massage to control pain. After several months still have some residual pain that wakes me at night. Any suggestio

Reevaluation: The Most likely possibilities are that you have ITB syndrome that has failed conservative care, or that the pain is coming from something else, such as a pinched nerve in the back. If you have not had one, an MRI of the lumbar spine as well as the hip itself would likely confirm the diagnosis. Don't hesitate to seek a second opinion to get a fresh set of eyes to look at you as well. ...Read more

Glass in outside knee, 3 days, no infection, hurts a lot to press on it, can't locate how long or where it is. Urgent care (pretty good) or ER?

Either…: You would need an x-ray to determine if and where the piece of glass is located. If there is a piece of glass in the soft tissue, you should try to have it extracted if possible due to the long-term risk of infection. In some cases, it is too small and the procedure to retrieve it would be more damaging than just leaving it in place. ...Read more

If you have a bladder infection and on antibiotic, can you get a cortisone shot in your knee.Would it make infection worse-cortisone?

UTI & cortisone shot: Unlikely that intraarticular cortisone will make a bladder infection worse - I am assuming you were on treatment for the infection prior to the cortisone shot. Bladder infections generally respond quickly with the right antibiotic. Just to be sure I would ask for a urine culture several days after completing the antibiotic to make sure the infection is cleared. good luck ...Read more
