Arthrofibrosis: You have what's called arthrofibrosis caused by your prolonged immobilization. The next step for you is physical therapy aimed at restoring your range of motion. If this is not effective you may need a manipulation under anesthesia or an arthroscopy to break up the scar tissue. Let's hope you get it accomplished through physical therapy. Good luck! ...Read more

I was put in a knee immobilizer for a month due to a dislocated patella. The brace keeps sliding down and does not support my knee can I ask for cast ?

You can but you may not like it.: When we do a cast for a knee injury it is a straight leg cast. This means that you can't bend your knee at all and you have to hobble around on crutches. Perhaps you can work on fitting that knee brace a little better. ...Read more

How do you bend your knee after full leg cast?

How do you bend your knee after full leg cast?

Motion & quadstrengt: After immobilization in a cast you will be stiff and have muscular atrophy. The only good part about the cast is that it helps the injured area to heal - it makes the surrounding areas worse due to lack of use. You will need therapy to regain your motion and to gradually increase your quad and hamstring strength to be able to regain your normal activities. ...Read more

Call your ortho: The immobilizer may have been fitted wrong. Contact your surgeon. If it is fitted properly, you may want to gently wrap the leg with an ace bandage, giving the immobilizer something to "grip" other than skin. Hope your leg is better soon! ...Read more

I broke my fibula 8 weeks ago. I got my air cast off@ 6 weeks and was told to start weight bear slowly everyday. My knee hurts when i do.Why?

Fibula head pain: I assume you broke your fibula at the ankle. (and not proximally at the knee). At the time if fracture the mechanism of the fracture could have caused what is caused 'translation' of the fibular head at the outer part if the knee. This can cause knee pain. If this is the site if knee pain then see a physiatrist (rehab medicine) for ultrasound treatment along the outer part if the knee. Goodluck. ...Read more

Had open knee surgery last tuesday & got my cast removed this monday. How do I get my knee to start bending again? It's very stiff & won't really bend

Talk to your surg--: Eon as he would know best what he did and how everything went. At this stage, pain would limit your knee bending, but continue as he advises. Pt would be helpful, if he advises at this stage. Heed his advise. Pain at this stage, after the surgery, is to be expected. Good luck. ...Read more

I got a short leg cast today and my knee is very stiff what are ways for the stiffness to go away?

I got a short leg cast today and my knee is very stiff what are ways for the stiffness to go away?

Move it: I assume you were taken out of a long leg cast and converted to a short leg cast. If so, the motion will gradually come. I would just try to heat it up prior to stretching with warm compresses and then stretch in both flexion (bend) and extension. It may take a couple weeks but it should improve. Your extension at this point is probably more important than the bend. ...Read more

Help! my knee hurts so much now that I have gotten my full leg cast off, it only hurts when i try to bend my knee. Please help!

Physical therapy: After use of a long leg cast, the knee tends to be very stiff with discomfort during flexion (bending) being typical. Physical therapy, or at least home rehab, is often necessary to regain knee range of motion, regain flexibility and improve strength and function. This knee discomfort tends to fade away over a couple of weeks as you regain your motion. ...Read more
