How helpful is brace: If the brace is the source of the calf pain, but helps the knee, then an adjustment to the brace (size, fit, etc.) could be considered. Alternatively, a new brace could be utilized. Personally, I don't routinely use braces for meniscal tears unless there is a ligament tear as well or associated arthritis with a misaligned knee. It sounds like your skin may be reacting to something it came in contact with. If it is painful, or has a cloudy pus-like discharge, or you have fever, get seen to rule out infections.
