Some alternatives: I don't understand the meaning of your last sentence; does it mean you have tried insomnia-directed cbt (as well as attention to sleep hygiene) but it hasn't worked? Sleep aids you didn't mentioned include rozerem, (ramelteon) doxepin, and various otc herbal mixtures. Also, withdrawal from some of the meds you mentioned could interfere with sleep. And, i'm assuming you aren't using alcohol in the evenings. ...Read more

Is taking 50000 iu D2 pill 1/week for month safe, esp along with 300 mg Wellbutrin (bupropion) XL (morn) & 1.5 mg Klonopin plus 1 mg melatonin (night)?

Pretty safe.: That is the recommended dose for that vitamin D. There is not an obvious interaction between any of the drugs except for klonapin and melatonin (they both make one sleepy) and the interaction there is quite mild. Klonapin is a controlled dangerous substance with addictive potential. ...Read more

Relax: Melatonin is extremely safe. Walter Pierpaoli, MD, PhD, is one of the leading melatonin researchers in the world. Dr. Pierpaoli says that "Melatonin is so safe you can take it by the pound." I would be more concerned about Klonopin (clonazepam). A recent report in the British Medical Journal reported that even short-term usage of the benzodiazepines greatly increased the risk of later Alzheimer's disease. ...Read more

I take 1 mg of Klonopin (clonazepam) and 50 mg of Topimax at night. Would it be ok to take a low dose (1-3mg) of melatonin?

Natural products: It would be perfectly OK, as melatonine is a natural product that helps your own similar substance work in sleep physiology and "bring down the curtains". It would also work better, if you keep your room dark when you take it. ...Read more

Is it safe to take melatonin, valerian with my klonopin and seroquel (quetiapine)?

Sedatives ...: Possibly safe. Whenever I'm asked about "natural" supplements (unless they're professional grade brands - such as Thorne) keep in mind that they're not usually tested for purity or potency. That said, melatonin can amplify the effects of quetiapine or clonazepam, but to what extent is unknown. Definitely discuss all of your OTC & Rx meds with your doctor - perhaps a dose change might help. G'Luck! ...Read more
