Public bathrooms and Ebola worried about catching it from toilet seat?

Public bathrooms and Ebola worried about catching it from toilet seat?

Not in the US today: As of this week (Oct. 2014), there are only 2 recently diagnosed Ebola patients (both are nurses) in the U.S., so even though it is possible to catch Ebola from a contaminated toilet seat (or any object freshly contaminated with blood or bodily substances/fluids) there is no place to find such a contaminated object in the U.S. except for in the hospital units caring for the two American patients. ...Read more

Dropped phone in public toilet, reached in grabbed it.Had open cuts on thumb, washed hands immediately. Will i get hepatitis, mrsa, hiv, disease now?

Highly unlikely: Don't worry! The best thing you did was aggressive hand washing. HIV, Hepatitis are primarily blood born and spread through needles and infected blood products. MRSA is also unlikely in this exposure. Don't fret, my friend! ...Read more

Worried about tetanus. Small wound from metal bar in outdoor shower on farm between toes. Shots out of date. Cleaned/bandaged wound with gentamicin.

Give me a boost.: The general rule is to have a booster if it has been more than 10 years since last shot. If the wound is deep and contaminated and it has been more than 5 years since your last shot, you will need a booster. Your wound care sounds adequate, but there is no way of telling if it is adequate enough. To remove all doubt, get a booster. ...Read more

Fire safety bed device for a quadriplegic?

Fire safety bed device for a quadriplegic?

Good question!: I have tried to find answers for this, to no avail. Suggestions from our spinal cord injury rehab center include 1. Have a way to call 911 from your bed 2. A companion dog who is trained to drag you to safety until help arrives, 3. Smoke and heat detectors through a home alarm service, who will send emergency personnel if they go off, and 4. A heat-triggered automatic sprinkler system. ...Read more

Chance of rabies?brother picked up trash,a raccoon kicked our can over.he washed his hands but I touched the faucet then touched a scratch on my leg

Your brother is not in danger from picking up the trash and you are not in danger as a result of touching something that your brother touched. No need to worry. If your concerns continue, speak with your doctor about it. ...Read more
