Does my boyfriends smokey ( he smokes cigs) hands touching my face ALL the time make my skin worse.. Pores.. Wrinkles?
Broke out in facial stress acne. after popping whiteheads cleaned face with 50% rubbing alcohol, now my entire face is red; did I burn my skin?!?!
No harm done: Next time you suspect something like this will happen, start up with a salicylic acid face wash as tolerated, or topical benzoyl peroxide if you have it. Rubbing alcohol isn't a good idea in this sort of situation -- it hurts your tissue more than it does the bacteria -- soap and water is much better for clearing the debris that gives the bacteria an advantage. Your physician's a resource. ...Read more

Probably: Good handwashing often removes clinging germs and viruses. Most everyone eventually gets the cold sore virus. Encourage adults with active lesions to avoid direct contact - like kissing in cheeks - during their flare up. Situation sounds low risk. ...Read more
My long distance boyfriend has a cold sore and I'm seeing him this weekend- can I kiss his face and can he kiss my face? Like cheek/forehead not mouth
It depends...: Is the diagnosis certain? Facial herpes can occur, but less common than oral (lips, etc), and it is unusual to have outbreaks in two area, i.e. both cheek and forehead. If he has it and you do not, best to avoid kissing and other direct contact, e.g. no oral sex on you. You could have a blood test. If already positive for HSV1 (as are half of all people), you're immune, can't catch it again. ...Read more

I use chemical sunscreen on my face daily. Should i be concern if my baby touch or brush across my face briefly and puts his hands in his mouth later?
Likely not: I would not be concerned unless you have just applied it to your face and it is still wet. If the babies hands are wet when they touch your face then wash the babies hands before he puts them in his mouth. Well that is probably overkill but if you are concerned then it gives you some peace of mind :) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Don't scrub!: Your face isn't a pot - don't scrub it. A dermatologist can tailor a treatment based on your skin type and the variety of acne you have. ...Read more
