Do I need different kinds of orthotics made depending on my sport?

Do I need different kinds of orthotics made depending on my sport?

Commonly, yes: Most labs provide sport specific orthotics. I believe that neutral foot position is neutral foot position and therefore use a device that i believe keeps the foot in neutral reguardless of activity. So the answer is no. The right orthotic works to keep the foot functional in a variety of positions reguardless of activity. ...Read more

I keep getting spurs, but not the kind on bottom of heel but the back of heel and pain at times. Difficult to lay down. I wear orthotics.

I keep getting spurs, but not the kind on bottom of heel but the back of heel and pain at times. Difficult to lay down. I wear orthotics.

Achilles tendinitis: Although I am not a podiatrist/foot specialist, it sounds like you are describing a bone spur on the back of the heel where the achilles tendon inserts. When the calf muscle is tight it pulls on the insertion in the back of the heel and the body compensates by laying down more bone at the attachment=bone spur. Ice 20 min, cushion, and gentle calf stretches may help. Consult your MD re: NSAIDs ...Read more

What type of orthotic is best for high arch?

Custom orthotics: As with many things in life, there is good, better, best. This is true for orthotics too. Custom orthotics are by far the best. Make sure that your podiatrist uses plaster to cast your feet in the "subtalar joint neutral position" so you will receive orthotics that correct abnormal biomechanics. Over-the-counter arch supports are made for the "average" foot and the arch will be too low for you. ...Read more
