3 mos baby is sleeping good at nite, but fights nap time& barely sleeps how many naps=length?

3 mos baby is sleeping good at nite, but fights nap time& barely sleeps how many naps=length?

Great nights!: It's hard to recommend anything that might sacrifice your nights. Preserve that no matter what. For the naps, start a strict daytime feeding schedule of every 2 -3 hours. Force the nap-time, but don't allow the naps to be more than an hour at a time. This will allow your child to get some rest, but hopefully it will not affect your nights. ...Read more

My 12 yr. Old son falls asleep doing schoolwork, homework, and chores; but is alert when watching t.V. Or playing video games, is this adhd?

My 12 yr. Old son falls asleep doing schoolwork, homework, and chores; but is alert when watching t.V. Or playing video games, is this adhd?

Maybe: Tv and video games are geared for a 4 second attention span. Most 2 year olds have longer attention spans than that. The 4 second attention span keeps your son alert via a neural reflex. It also lowers his attention span for the real world. Research states of those who watch 1 hour a day 9% will lower their attention span to add levels. 2 hours lowers 18% and 3 hrs 27%. Limit both to 45 min/day. ...Read more

1 month old awake for 12 hours, won't sleep - warm bottle, swaddle, dark, quiet, car rides, lay on my chest, singing, rocking... I'm worried...

Sleep: Don't worry. If there was a problem, you baby would show other symptoms like crying, fever, vomit, rash, etc. If the only symptom is you baby is awake, there is nothing you can do. Most infants will naturally fall asleep when they are tired. Most take 2 naps in the day, and 12 to 15 hours at night, but just like adults, they can go off schedule. If 24, go check her out. ...Read more

1 month old awake for 12 hours, won't sleep, tried rocking, singing, swaddling, warm bottle, car ride, lay on my chest, dark, quiet... I'm worried...?

Normal sleep pattern: OK, if your baby had a serious problem, it would have more symptoms than being awake, like cry, fussiness, fever, etc. If the only issue you have is staying awake, your baby is likely just off schedule. That said, but it to sleep around an hour earlier than typical to make up for its lack of sleep. If your baby does not sleep after 24 hours, go see your doc. ...Read more

My 2 yrs old hardly sleeps maybe avg. 6 hrs/night wakes up often. He does not take naps. When he sleeps he has night terrors. Will Melatonin help him?

Don't medicate him : I would advise against medicating kids that young unless absolutely necessary. Welcome to the terrible 2s. Can you elaborate on night terrors? Maybe he just needs a night light or to sleep next to his parents? ...Read more

Why don't autistic kids pretend play?

Why don't autistic kids pretend play?

Good question: Typical 1-year-olds feed a doll with a bottle, representing an act from the environment. Even at 3-4 years, kids with autism put the tip of the bottle in any indentation on the doll's body, sensorimotor play. Despite overdeveloped rote memory, they can't "get" concepts- things you can't see or touch-because of their concrete thinking. That's why therapy has to be intensive & repetitive to work. ...Read more

6 wk old extreme difficulty sleeping. Won't sleep in crib, swing, car, or swaddled. Please help it takes us hours before she finally falls asleep.

It can be tough: Make time approaching sleep time calm and quiet. Don't feed, overstimulate, have tickles and then expect the child to just shut down and go to sleep. Won't happen. Dont respond instantly so they learn to lull themselves to sleep. Let them figure it out without a lot of interference from you. Google My newborn won't sleep. Lots of really good info from multiple sources like Parents.com. ...Read more

6yr old. Sleeps a lot. Ex: All night n noon till 10pm. Up 3hrs, than sleeps n sleeps n school till noon? Bags on eyes, eats less. Doc said allergies??

Serious Fatigue: School age children are normally quite active. For a young child to be sleeping most of the day and having fatigue, I would be concerned about a more serious underlying condition, including diabetes or anemia. While allergies can make one feel tired, a child should not be excessively fatigued or lethargic from them without significant other symptoms. ...Read more

My 6 month boy(formulafed) doesnt sleep during day, wakes up at slightest sound. He sleeps for 7-8hrs at night. Total<10hrs/day.Can I give him Atarax (hydroxyzine)?

No: Consider providing him a quieter and darker room during the day if possible. I strongly advise using a medication to induce sleeping on a regular basis especially on an infant this young. Pills do not provide good quality sleep . If he appears to be healthy otherwise, don't intervene for your own convenience. ...Read more

Sleep disorder? Struggle to stay awake after 6 pm and keep nodding off drooling. Wake up at 3:30/4am wide awake x1year. Ruining social life. Why?

Not sure why: You fall asleep at 6 pm because you get up at 304 am. You would benefit form seeing your doc and or a sleep specialist. You may have food allergies. I would also consult an acupuncturist. You are clearly imbalanced and they offer a whole other dimension of care that is very helpful. ...Read more

My kids are 11, 8, 5n 3 years old. Is it ok to put them to sleep at 5:30pm n they wake up at 5am? Only on schoolnights. Not school nights bed at 7pm...

That sounds early...: Usually, parents set kids' bedtime and waking hours according to when parents have to work, and when kids have to be at school. If there is no special need, such as a parent having to show up at her job at 6 A.M., then school hours mostly influence kids' hours. For young kids, dinner at 6, bedtime at 8-9 (they go to bed then, but are free to fall asleep a bit later), and waking at 6, works fine. ...Read more
