I can't seem to kill off the lice, should I try prescribed malathion lotion?

Yes: Sometimes lice can be very resilient. You also can have families which re-infect each other. Try the prescription shampoo/ lotion and be sure to have each of your family members and/or pets checked and treated as well. Wash all linens in hot water and even try having the rugs in the house steam cleaned. Lice can infect and re-infect a family, and in some cases an extreme cleaning is needed. ...Read more

Does nix (permethrin) lice lotion kill scabies?

Does nix (permethrin) lice lotion kill scabies?

Not a good choice: Nonprescription nix (permethrin 1%) is used to treat lice but is not strong enough to cure scabies. Prescription Permethrin 5%(elimite) cream is the most common medication to treat scabies and it works well. Lindane is mentioned in the above answer- it is rarely used now and carries a boxed warning because it has caused seizures and death in some age groups and low weight individuals. ...Read more

Treat Both Partners: Crab Lice are transmitted by direct contact. Sexual partners must be treated at the same time to prevent re-infesting each other. The lice you are finding after you have treated yourself are likely coming from your partner now. Have your partner see a doctor for exam and treatment to stop the vicious cycle. Avoid sexual contact until you are both successfully treated. ...Read more

Lice treatment: Over the counter products for lice treatments are available, but can be toxic. Does derbac m help or get rid of scabies? Or does any other lice lotion help?

Not usually: Derbac is malathion; an organophosphorous insecticide used in resistant cases of head lice (over age six years) not usually used in scabies where resistance is rare. Malathion is flammable and made with a base of rubbing alcohol so use on raw skin (as in scabies) would cause stinging and irritation.
