Kidney Tests Creatinine
My father had a radical nephrectomy 3 years back. He lost one kidney.
Recently tests shown his creatinine level 2.0. Not diabetic. How to lower down?
Follow-up: If dad is a well-muscled man (which raises creatinine well above "normal range" for today's couch potatoes) and we already know why he lost half his nephrons, this may not be an issue. I trust he is being followed up and that folks are watching for focal-segmental glomerulosclerosis / hyperfiltration lesion that's fairly common in kidneys that lose their partner. Don't try to treat a lab value. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
The kidneys are paired organs that lie on either side of the vertebral column. Part of their critical functions include the excretion of urine and removal of nitrogenous wastes products from the blood. They regulate acid-base, electrolyte, fluid balance and blood pressure. Through hormonal signals, the kidneys control the ...Read more
I am two months and had a creatinine kidney function test that has out of range results.Everything else was normal. ?
BUN = 6
Creatinine = .58
BUN/Creatinine = 10
I read that a 10 warrants further tests to determine if intrinsic kidney damage. Does that apply here?
Can you tell me about pre-conditions for doing the tests for albumin and creatinine in kidney function tests ?
Htn, diabetes: Creatinine is part of chemistry panel. Your doctor will decide if you need chemistry test based on your medical condition. So this is part of routine chemistry. Albumin is checked as part of urinalysis. Hypertension, diabetes are 2 conditions that these tests must be checked at the time of diagnosis and every follow up. ...Read more
What are Test to check kidney function are working 100% or not other than creatinine and urea? as my creatinine increased to 1.1 from 0.75 in 4 months
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your creatinine is still within the normal range. One additional for kidney function is to check urine for protein leakage. It would be prudent to discuss the matter with the doctor who ordered the tests. ...Read more

Severe back issues, using Percocet for 7 yrs. Recent blood test showed Creatinine=1.6 & eGFR=44. Will my kidneys likely recover after discontinuing? H
Hard to say: The creatinine level rises with age and since you have not provided any info on your age, it is hard to tell whether there has been any kidney damage. There is also no way to tell whether your kidney function will improve after taking off of Percocet and whether there may be other factors causing the damage. Nonetheless chronic intake of acetaminophen can impact your organs especially the liver ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I had bloodwork done on tuesday that came back with a bun/creatinine ratio of 23. All other tests were normal. On wednesday night i had a kidney stone attack. Would that have raised my ratio?
Do these test result indicate a kidney problem? fasting blood glucose : 103, urea: 27, creatinine: 1.5, total cholestrol: 248 triglycerid 308 mg/dL
It depends: The creatinine's a little bit high for a lady. When I was working out a lot, mine ran 1.7; unless you're also doing a lot of strength training, your creatinine's high and that's concerning for kidney disease. I'd address the cholesterol and maybe triglycerides as well. If you've had to have laser resurfacing for your acne, you probably need stronger Rx if you're still getting lesions. Best wishes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My egfr is 72ml and creatinine is 1.38mg. Urine test and USG-KUB is normal showing sludge/debris in both kidneys with early calculi.Anything to worry?
Ask your doctors...: A;though sGFR may be at its low end, it is still worthwhile to do nothing but wait and see as long as being asymptomatic. Of course, keep eyes on your clinical profile with repeating another set of blood tests for renal function in 2-3 months; that is reasonable. To do things right for good medical care, follow instructions described in http://formefirst.com/eNewsletter06.html. Best wish to health ...Read more
Urine test protein 2+ for the past 2 visits. Blood test creatinine etc kidney function is ok. What causes protein in urine?
