Sonography is probably better for identifying gall stones, is free of radiation ; is quite good at idtifying kidneys and presence or absence of urinary obstruction. Ct best for kidney stones. I had blood in my urine could it be that I'm taking calcium? I also had pain on my right upper back I was told it was kidney stone. Is this true?
Is that so?: If an imaging study was performed that showed you have a kidney stone, then that's probably why you have the blood in your urine. If there's no imaging study, you don't know if it's a kidney stone or not, and getting imaged would probably be worthwhile. Why are you taking calcium? I can't recommend it as a general 'women's health' measure especially if there's a question of nephrolithiasis. ...Read more

I have had some bouts with kidney stones and now my dr says there is trace blood in my urine. Should I be worried?
No point in worrying: Trace blood most likely might indicate residual stone fragments or a new stone, might indicate bladder tumor, if ur a smoker or kidney tumor or hopefully means nothing other than an inconsequential trace of blood. Where would kidney stone be if it causes blood in urine? I have 3 based on utlsnd in November. No pain at all. Urine bloody other times clear. 38y old
Absolutely: The very fact that the "stone" scraping along on the inner aspect of the ureter (the tube from the kidney to the bladder) causes pain also means that it can be abrasive enough to the inside of the ureter to cause bleeding as well. Indeed, bleeding is a very common occurrence during the passage of a kidney stone. ...Read more
