I am told my Glomerular filtration Rate is 57.6. Does this indicate Kidney disease? Creatinine is 1.0 BUN is 20 total Protein is 7.0 I am 55 w/f

I am told my Glomerular filtration Rate is 57.6. Does this indicate Kidney disease? Creatinine is 1.0 BUN is 20 total Protein is 7.0 I am 55 w/f

GFR: Your Estimated filtration rate is borderline. This is not a problem itself. The important concern is whether disease exists that might be progressive. Serum creatinine of 1.0 is "normal". So is serum creatinine 1.1. However, creatinine relates to muscle mass. If you are small muscled as a. 55 yo woman, then creatinine of 1.1 or 1.0 may indicate some minor impairment in its excretion. ...Read more

What is normal for bun and creatinine post kidney removal? My grandfather's bun: 28 and creatinine: 2.05. He is 3 weeks post surgery.

What is normal for bun and creatinine post kidney removal? My grandfather's bun: 28 and creatinine: 2.05. He is 3 weeks post surgery.

No exact answer. But: This value ofcreatinine of 2 after removal of one kidney is not normal. It should be closer to 1.0 or so. However, if grandfather is in his seventies and about 160-170 pounds, his kidney function is near 50% or so. In his age group, his kidney function should be near 70% or so. He has probably an aging of his kidneys beyond his actual age. Need to ask his doc about reason. Hi blood pressure? ...Read more

BUN = 6
Creatinine = .58
BUN/Creatinine = 10

I read that a 10 warrants further tests to determine if intrinsic kidney damage. Does that apply here?

Just a ratio: Since your BUN is normal and your creatinine is less than 1 which is also normal, you should not worry. Ask your doctor in your follow up visit to review your concerns with you. ...Read more

1 kidney
should i be concerned?

Low GFR, one kidney: You may hace chronic kidney disease (ckd). Your creatinine level is dependent is your age, sex, race and weight. You are the one to determine what those are. I would suggest you see a neprhologist and collect a 24 hour urine to see how well your one kidney is working. Another test that can be done is an ultrasound of your one kidney to see its size and to see if there is any presence of ckd. ...Read more

Dehydration: Creatinine is more sensitive than BUN in terms of assessing kidney function, although, the most sensitive would be GFR (glomerular filtration rate). Sometimes the high ration is seen in people who are dehydrated or have urea production increase such as liver cirrhosis. ...Read more

My creatinine level and bun are normal. My GFR is lower than last year (50). I am caucasian. Should I be concerned about kidney function? Thanks.

Low GFR: GFR below 60 for > 3 months may be an indication of chronic kidney disease. As cardiovascular factors (blood pressure, glucose, lipids) are a major cause of kidney disease, these should be controlled. GFR also reduces with age. ...Read more
