Not necessarily: Diabetes can certainly affect the eye causing diabetic retinopathy. If someone has renal failure due to diabetes it is very likely they also have retinopathy. Kidney failure may affect blood pressure, which may have an affect on the eyes. It is very important to control blood sugar and blood pressure when diabetic to minimize chance of complications/diabetic retinopathy. ...Read more

Needs eye exam: If your father has diabetes and kidney failure, it is very likely he has diabetic retinopathy as well. This is diagnosed with a dilated eye exam. Blindness or blurry vision that lasts several seconds at a time could also represent ischemia or lack of blood blow to the eye or brain. Dehydration: Given the symptoms you describe, the only advice i can give to you is to go to the nearest er as soon as you can. You need to evaluated and have your blood tested. You may also need to be hospitalized and be given fluids through your vein. ...Read more

Proteinuria??: I am sure he sees his kidney or transplant doc. A severe protein loss in urine could cause puffy lids. If so, this may suggest a disease in the transplant. It may be a recurrence of a disease that was in native kidneys, now in transplant. Also, an effect of fluid retention due to steroid meds for transplant is possible.Make sure he is taking all his meds and that he is not missing doc appointments. ...Read more

Skin itch (no redness) started 2 yrs ago, feet & hands, then scrotum. It comes & goes. Now it itches more, puffy eyes and redness on neck. What is it?

This can cause fluid retention & present as swelling in the legs, hands, feet, face and even the abdomen if severe.
