Not usually: Celebrex (celecoxib) and the other meds in the group "nsaids" typically cause damage to the kidney from longer term use. Often the injury is added to underlying kidney function that is already abnormal. At this point, it is important to avoid the use of any other nsaids such as advil or Motrin - or the typical drug name ibuprofen. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Advil (ibuprofen) for renal pain: It woud be better if you find the cause of your pain, rather than blindly taking advil (ibuprofen) for it. Advil (ibuprofen) can cause acute renal failure, reversed by stopping it. Advil (ibuprofen) may also aggravate any hypertension you may have. See a urologist to find out if you have kidney pain and what is causing it. Your treatment plan can then be formulated and perhaps you will be able to get rid of it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Controversial: There are studies on both sides of this issue, with some researchers finding that tramadol did reduce withdrawal, while others finding that it either did very little, or in some cases actually made it worse. A problem is that doses of ultram in the therapeutic range (300-400 mg/day) can cause seizures. My patients have told me mostly that ultram did very little for them, but a few got + results. ...Read more
Meloxicam: Meloxicam, like other nsaids, can affect kidney function. This usually isn't an issue in young healthy adults, but patients with other risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking, etc, have to be very careful if they use prescription or over the counter nsaids. Tramadol is a pain medication and would not typically affect kidney function. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have 2 herniated disc in my lower back plus stage 3 kidney disease. Been taking tramadol for back, not working no more. What meds you recommend?
Tramadol: In my experience, tramadol will not be the drug of choice to effectively alleviate your lower back pain as a result of 2 levels of lumbar disc herniation. Contact your prescribed physician to discuss for possible medication modification. If your physician is uncomfortable to prescribe controlled narcotic pain medication, have him or her refer you to a pain management specialist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I am experiencing severe muscle spasms in my lower back. I have meloxicam 7.5 mg and soma 350 mg. Is one of these more effective than the other?
Both: Soma is a muscle relaxant while meloxicam is an anti-inflammatory. I think you could take both. However there may be a strong element of tension and stress in your symptoms. Accordingly stress management therapy should be considered as well as evaluation for depression. Don't try to fight these symptoms without professional help as continual stress and depression wear you down affecting health ...Read more

Some people are more sensitive to tramadol than others. Kidney stone pain usually responds better to high dose antiinflammatories like ibuprofen 800mg. Don't self-diagnose.
