My friend is wanting to know if its dangerous to have small kidneys? She has been having a lot of back pain, chills and shortness of breath.

My friend is wanting to know if its dangerous to have small kidneys? She has been having a lot of back pain, chills and shortness of breath.

Lungs?: Kidneys vary in size a little. What do you mean small and why are they small? If she has a chronic kidney disease and her kidneys are small as a result of that it could be related to her current symptoms. If she has mildly small kidneys and normal function this is not likely relatedat all. I wonder if her symptoms are more related to her lungs which can produce pain, chills and short breath. ...Read more

Pr3 elevated at 3.9 u/ml labcorp, with no anca titre. anemia, kidney issue and shortness of breath: should vasculitid be worked up? diabetic patient.

Mgt: I would suggest chest imaging, and discussing a renal workup to include an ultrasound, renal function, and possibly a biopsy. I have been having pain in the lower back area as well as pain on the sides above the hips..Moreoever I have been feeling a shortness of breath?

Related?: It's hard to relate these 2 symptoms. A blood borne infection that seeds your pelvis could cause both, but that would be rare and you would be very ill. I suggest you get some testing done to rule out serious illness. The most likely outcome is that you have 2 minor issues. ...Read more

?: Assuming you have not been subject to trauma, there are 2 internal organs in your back that move with respiration: your kidney and your lungs. Since you're short of breath, we'll presume it's the latter. If you have fever, cough, and phlegm, you likely have pneumonia. If you don't, you may have pleurisy (inflamed lining of the lung). You really should be evaluated/examined. Pls see your doc in am. ...Read more
