Biopsy is tissue removed by needle or cutting to remove part of a body part. It is usually a small amount of material that is processed by a pathologist. Most of the time it is stained and looked at through a microscope to arrive at a diagnosis. Special processes are done for some tissues or problems. The purpose is to tell what the problem is (diagnosis). ...Read more
Depends: Kidney biopsies are done under local anesthesia (unless you are a pediatric patient) and either an ultrasound or CT scan is used to select a good location. Many physicians will inject 5-15ml of 1% lidocaine into the skin/muscle/soft tissues. You will still feel some pressure but should not have sharp pain during the biopsy.See 1 more doctor answer
Kidney needle: A kidney biopsy is performed to determine the cause of kidney disease. It is performed by inserting a biopsy needle, usually with ultrasound guidance, into the lower pole of one kidney, pencil lead wide pieces about one inch long are submitted for pathologic reivew.
I have questions about kidney biopsy procedure... how does it work and what will it tell the doctors? I'm having one tomorrow and I have questions.
Complex issue: It is difficult to address the issue in the limited space available for answers. You may consult the site listed below for basic information and if you still have questions, it is appropriate to ask your doctor. Http://www. Nlm. Nih. Gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003907.htm
Splenectomy: Can predispose you to future infections with encapsulated organisms and elevated platelet count that can lead to blood clots. Kidney biopsy if done by and interventional radiologist is generally very safe, if coagulation parameters are normal. Both answers are general answers and it may not apply to your specific situation, so ask your doctor for detailed answer.
Kidney Biopsy: I've seen this kind of pain last up to 6 weeks but that was in someone who had some really bad bleeding afterwards. I would say the normal amount of time to have some pain is 2 weeks. What is critical is this - is the pain slowly resolving? If so, you are recovering. The actual blood that has been lost will reabsorb over about a 2-3 weeks.
I had kidney biopsy in 2006. Barely saw results. Final diag says: "inadequate (very limited amount of cortex & glomeruli). What does this mean? Help?
Not enough tissue: It means there wasn't enough tissue for the pathologist to make any reasonable diagnosis. Unfortunately, also means that if you really need some answers, they would have to repeat the biopsy.
Kidney biopsy?: I would go to a nephrologist for an evaluation of why your creatinine (c) is 2.. You should have a 24 hour urine collection for c clearance and protein. If you have more than 500 mg of protein/24 hours in your collection, more blood work will be needed to see what the problem is. If it does not, a kidney biopsy will be needed to get a diagnosis and prognosis. Your uric acid level is normal.
I had a kidney biopsy 4 days ago. The area is red and itchy. Is that normal? How soon can I start cycling and paddle boarding?
SOmetimes: The area of redness could be from the dressing, or it could be normal. You can go paddle boarding as soon as you feel up to it. But check with your doctor.
Very long time: It would do you good not drink alcohol at all. No good comes from taking this poison!
My husband had a kidney biopsy on Monday and he is still sore and tired at night. Is this normal after this type of procedure?
Need more info...: What are his current renal function and general health state and drug use? Was renal biopsy done under IV sedation or other anesthesia? An uneventful renal biopsy (without major bleeding which is rare) alone should not leave such lingering effect but the factors mentioned above may induce variable lingering effects. How long can it be? It widely varies. So, watch, wait, and see for now; but still.
