See an ID doctor: The two primary illnesses that can produce a persistent cough of this nature are mycoplasma pneumoniae and bordetella pertussis infection. Things to consider would include acid reflux, chronic sinus infection, chronic granulomatous infections like tuberculosis, cryptococcosis and others, along with non-infectious inflammatory conditions. This is not a one-stop shop. You must undergo a work up. ...Read more

Yes: Cough is a symptom and can come back after finishing antibiotics. Take some over the counter cough suppressant, e.G Robitussin dm/ Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm to alleviate your symptom. Any lingering symptom, talk to your dr again and mention the possibilities of asthma, reactive airway disease, acid reflux, and having a chest xray. Take care! ...Read more

Possibilities....: Your cough may be due to bronchospasm from any etiology, gerd, post-nasal drip or even a combination of factors. It may not be due to infection or it may have started out as an acute bronchitis infection but now bronchospasm is complicating your recovery. See your doctor again since all these possibilities have different treatments. If you smoke, you need to quit to decrease airway inflammation. ...Read more

You should feel: little better by now. Follow up by your doctor instead of going to ER unless you have an emergency such as difficulty to breath. You may need your treatment to be reviewed such as ordering additional test ( sputum and blood culture). Antibiotic may need to be changed depending the tests result. You may also be referred to a lung specialist by your local doctor. ...Read more

I have a bad cough. Had xray taken and an on antibiotics for three days. Still terrible. Should I go back to docs or give it more time?

Depends...: If you have pneumonia, you likely need more time. If you have bronchitis, you would expect to begin feeling better soon. The cough can continue if there is ongoing airway inflammation which can lead to bronchospasm. Sometimes, bronchodilator and even steroid inhalers may be needed for a short time to resolve the cough. Your doctor can prescribe these medications so see your doc if cough persists. ...Read more
