Keflex Dosage Vomiting
Diagnosed w/ double pnue. A week ago. On keflex, promethazine/codeine syrup and albuterol inhaler. Still coughing so hard I vomit and pee. Help?
Bronchi inflamed: Your pulmonary infection is attracting an inflammatory response, with mucus exudate that you must clear up and out. The cough is a good reflex. Still, you are miserable. Try: hot showers 3x/day, warm salt gargles hourly, a different cough med (Hycodan) (best rx), Ricola or Halls cough drops, tea hourly, and ask about different antibiotic. Are you wheezing? Any asthma tendencies? Predisone? ...Read more

I have a 4 yr old that was placed on keflex this am. Cough, abd pain, vomiting, diarrhea, fever (101.4-102.7). Fever started 2040 on 3/3/15. Now 95.0 F?
Thermometer working?: Your question leaves me with more questions before I could answer it. That is usually a sign that a call to your pediatrician is in order. Why were the antibiotics started (diagnosis)? Is your thermometer working. A true temp of 95 concerns me as I worry about sepsis and worsening illness. How does your child look/act? Call the doctor OR if not acting well be seen in ER. ...Read more
Can I get pregnant if I vomited a little two hours after taking my pill? I'm also on keflex for throat infection & had unprotected sex yesterday.
Yes.: But you knew that already--didn't you? Skipping a pill (same as vomiting it up), antibiotic usage, and unprotected sex are all ways that can make you a parent. Even if the odds are low, they are still there. Be careful out there! Be on bc that you control; also be aware that unprotected sex can mean std. ...Read more
I have a 15, 000 WBC count in blood on keflex and doxycycline for urine infection for 2 days now chills and throwing up?
See your doctor: Your vomiting could be due to medication side effects but if you are also having chills it could mean that you may be having pyelonephritis which means the infection has ascended up in the urinary tract into the lower part of the kidneys (especially if you also have fever and flank pain plus your high wbc)). You need to see your doctor to be rechecked and for a possible change in antibiotics. ...Read more
What to do if I am deathly afraid of vomiting so if I am okay with amoxicillin and cephalexin will I be okay taking z-pak (aka zithromax)?
Severe headache especially behind left eye for 7 days. Had sweats, cold chills and vomiting for 4 days. Family doctor put me on cephalexin 2000 mg.
Eye pain: The best way to start the evaluation would be to see an ophthalmologist for a complete eye examination to see if an explanation can be found for your symptoms or to decide what he next step should be. The initial impression of your family doctor suggests a sinusitis and the use of the antibiotic. If this does not resolve the issue then I would suggest following through with an ophthalmologist. ...Read more
How do you treat a person who gets chronic uti's all the time? Tests all normal. Was on keflex low dose for years and it helped, but not anymore.
Recommended dose: No, 500mg TID x 10 days is the recommended dose for susceptible infections. Some clinicians only prescribe it BID or for only 7 days. Please follow your clinician's recommendation and complete full course. ...Read more
I never took keflex before. I took amoxicilin before, I'm not allergic to it. Is there anyway I can try to see if I'm allegric before I take full dose?
I have oral thrush. My Dr. Prescribed me one dose of Fluconazole. I started taking Keflex yesterday. Should I continue to take the Keflex?
With recurring uti's - my brother was given ampicillin to be followed by supportive dose of keflex indefinitely. When should he be retested?
Up to his doctor: UTI in older men usually occurs with other urinary tract problems that increase susceptibility or make it difficult or impossible to eliminate all bacteria: prostate infection, kidney stone, partial blockage, etc. Best antibiotics and follow-up testing are complex decisions, impossible to judge without more info. If any doubt, your brother might benefit from infectious disease consultation. ...Read more

Painless lump in underarm. Dr thought hair follicle or sweat gland. Put me on 2000 mg keflex. No lymph modes in arm. Is that why such a high dose?
Stop Keflex: No possibility of any benefit from any antibiotic, only risks of bad effects. Probably no need to treat. See a dermatologist if it annoys you. If it grows larger it needs to be checked: suggest a different place. Usually this will be a small cyst in the acne family. If it becomes painful or larger then other things need be considered. ...Read more
Swollen nasal passages for three months. Nasal swab found large amount of coagulase negative staph. Doctor wants me to take keflex. I was on keflex for 5 years low dose to treat e-coli UTI which is now resistant to keflex. Wont staph be resistant to?
No: A person doesn't get resistent to an antibiotic, but a germ can. If you have not been on keflex in the past months it would likely kill off some of the germs on your body. However; I find coag negative staph to be a normal skin contaminant and not worthy of any treatment. Use of a simple OTC nasal steroid spray like rhinocort would help with most causes of nasal membrane swelling. ...Read more
If I took a cephalexin capsule on an empty stomach 10 hours ago, would I be throwing up right now?
Taking cephalexin 3xdaily since Thursday. Since yesterday throwing up, 101f, can't get out of bed, severe head ache, dizzy, can't stand up, can't eat.
Not very: By the time someone has a boil, it's generally too late for antibiotics. A boil needs to be opened and drained. In addition, a large proportion of boils or abscesses these days are caused by mrsa, which can't be treated with keflex. Mrsa is generally treated with Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or clindamycin, but again, drainage is the key. ...Read more
