Days-week+: As long as the swelling is going down you are moving in the right direction. If the swelling increases in size then go back to your doctor. No: I applaud your efforts to save money / avoid waste and am glad that you asked first. While Cephalexin may work for some of the bacteria that cause sinus infections it is not the drug of choice so by taking it you would run the risk of side effects for naught.

Assess for abscess: Though other pain meds are available, if you just started the regimen, then you may experiencing increasing pain the day after- it's called the "antibiotic effect". This pain will decrease over the course of treatment. Otherwise, if the infected skin is warm, red, very tender, swollen and boggy/fluctuant, then it may be an abscess- if so, see your prescribing doctor for re-evaluation. ...Read more
