Can keflex cause colitis or swelling of the intestines?

Can keflex cause colitis or swelling of the intestines?

Yes: Virtually every antibiotic has the potential to cause a type of colitis called c. Difficile colitis. Antibiotics kill bacteria. Even as normal people we have thousands of different kinds of bacteria in our colons. When you take antibiotics, it kills some, which allows other types to thrive. When clostridium difficile thrives, it causes colitis. This can be life-threatening and require surgery. ...Read more

One of the side effects of cephalexin is it can cause pseudomembranous colitis. If you were to give a percentage, how likely is this to happen?

Cannot: Clostridium difficile colitis occurs when you alter the normal colonic flora with antibiotics and it grows out and produces toxin. Whether this happens depends on whether you were previously colonized with this organism, the strain in your colon and other factors. No specific %s are available. Don't use antibiotics unless absolutely necessary. ...Read more

Dermatologist ASAP: Some acne is resistant to antibiotics. Other treatments are available, but require specialist care. If you're not under care of a dermatologist, ask for referral to one right away. Prompt treatment may be needed to prevent permanent scarring. With modern treatment, nobody should ever have to deal with that lifelong problem. Good luck! ...Read more

Scrotal skin infection. Huge swollen lump. On keflex and neosporin. Swelling going down very slowly. Been a week. How long till swelling is gone?

Days-week+: As long as the swelling is going down you are moving in the right direction. If the swelling increases in size then go back to your doctor. The time it takes for the swelling to completely clear depends on the size of the swelling originally and your compliance with the medicines. Usually 1 -2 weeks should do it. ...Read more

Missed IV shot meth. 32h out. Swelling down some, but pain worse (but mild), and dark discolor. Taking bactrim/keflex. Slight numb. Bruise or hypoxia?

Possibly permanent : Local tissue damage. The dark discoloration maybe long lasting depending on the insoluble ingredients present (if they can't dissolve and be absorbed then they become more or less a tattoo). If the pain persists or if it starts to look infected better get it checked out. ...Read more

Hard to say: Many potential causes. You certainly would need to be followed closely as oral antibiotics alone would rarely cure a deep infection associated with a hip replacement. Getting some basic blood work to make sure you are not anemic and a primary care check up would probably be a good idea. ...Read more
