How does keeping a wound moist lead to faster and safer healing?

How does keeping a wound moist lead to faster and safer healing?

Keeping a wound at an ideal moisture level results in the best cell division and migration as well as providing the best environment to lay down the structural protein collagen which grows new blood vessels and decreases scarring. ...Read more

Is it fine to cover the wound with a medical plaster? Because every time I do, the wound tends to moist and it takes longer time to heal.

Moist is better: For superficial wounds (burns/scrapes that don't go all the way through the skin) keeping the wound moist results in faster healing. Don't confuse "time until a scab forms" with "time until the wound is healed! " Yes, once a scab forms you don't need to dress it, but that is not the same as healed. Healing is not complete until the scab comes off and there is skin across the wounded area again. ...Read more

Regeneration tissue: In the healing process of a wound it will change colors and consistency. Many times a white film or tissue that can appear on a healing wound is regenerating tissue. Do not scrape it off, continue to nurture the wound and watch for increasing redness and swelling that continues to spread outward from the site. This is a possible sign of infection along with fevers of course. Continue healing! ...Read more

Can you use ulcer ointments in the vagina to prevent a small tear from being moist and wet? If so, will this make the tear heal faster?

I got my wound debrided on monday, silversorb has been applied to aid in moist wound healing, since tues, there's a black spot over the skin near wound?

Hard to say: A black spot could mean the skin is dead in that area and there could be some type of infection there. However, it could be a spot where a little blob of silver oxidized and wouldn't be serious. You might be able to tell more by very gently trying to wash the area. If it comes right off, and the skin looks normal underneath, no worries. ...Read more

I was licked in the lips, licked in the wound (possibly) by a stray cat had its wet fur hit my eye. It was a healthy cat. Am I at risk for rabies?

Cats and rabies: The best thing to do is locate this stray cat and follow its course for 10 days. If the cat remains healthy after 10 days, you will not get rabies. Good that the cat was 'healthy' appearing-that lowers the risk of this exposure to almost zero. WHO classifies this type of exposure as the 'lowest risk' of rabies, and it's extremely unlikely you'll get the disease. See an ID doc though if concerned ...Read more
