Kawasaki Disease (Overview)

Kawasaki disease is a childhood illness caused by inflammation of medium sized blood vessels. Symptoms include fever for greater than 5 days, strawberry red tongue, red lips, swollen lymph nodes, and a peeling rash. The most serious complication is caused by inflammation of blood vessels that supply the heart, leading to a weakness in the wall of those blood vessels and potential rupture.
