How can I darken a region of lighter skin on my chest? I once had tinea versicolor but doctors determined the fungus to be gone. Is tanning ok?

I wouldn't try: This post-inflammatory pigmentation is to be expected. Exposing your skin to ultraviolet will age it faster than it needs to happen, and risks cancer down the road. Messing around with darkeners like permanganate is more likely to leave a mess. In real life, there are no movie-star-perfect bodies, and nobody cares. At your age, like any other, looks are 95% about fitness. Best wishes.

Skin irritants: Although it would be unlikely for oils and lotions to cause fungal infections in people with normal skin, there are chemicals in some products that create sensitivity and rashes. Tinea versicolor is a fungal infection which may have been able to infect you if you have become sensitive to the oils and your skin cannot protect itself as well as usual.

I got tinea versicolor on my skin, I think it may came because of the dun throw the summer. Please can you give me a name of any medicine I should get?

Topical meds: Having trouble interpreting the autocorrect, but treatment is generally the same. Topical antifungal medications (eg clotrimazole, terbinafine, etc), topical selenium sulfide, and topical zinc pyrithione are well-tolerated first-line therapies for tinea versicolor

Tinea versicolor: I googled for the white spots on my skin and they look exactly like tinea versicolor. How can I kill it?

Selsun blue: You may try selsun blue shampoo. Lather every day in the shower for 5 minutes then rinse off. This is your soap, do not use any other soap. If this doesn't work then you may need to see your dermatologist for a stronger shampoo or an oral pill.

My baby was diagnosed having some type of tinea versicolor, given kind of clotrimazole, does my babys skin will back to normal color with this medicine, ?

Tinea Versicolor: Tinea versicolor is a common infection of healthy people caused by a fungus that is commonly found on normal human skin. There seems to be a genetic predisposition to develop tinea versicolor, the nature of which is poorly understood. This skin condition can be controlled but rarely cured.

Tinea versicolor (fungal skin infection) risk of recurrence?

Tinea versicolor (fungal skin infection) risk of recurrence?

Yes: This condition tends to recur. Best way to minimize recurrence is after infection is adequately treated, use over the counter anti-dandruff shampoo a few times a week as a "body soap" on the area affected by infection. This will help keep the causative yeast under better control.

I suffer from tinea versicolor. I have tried a few treatment methods but none seem to clear the infection and make my skin all the same colour.

I suffer from tinea versicolor. I have tried a few treatment methods but none seem to clear the infection and make my skin all the same colour.

See below: If used selenium sulfide, sodium sulfacetamide, ciclopiroxolamine, allylamine, or or azole (ketoconazole) antifungals locally for two weeks and not improved, a consultation is needed to determine the etiology and treatment.

Long after the bacteria tinea versicolor was determined GONE from my chest, the lightened skin patch remains. How can I restore my skin pigmentation?

Whoa: First, tinea versicolor is a fungus, not a bacterium. Second, culture is famously unreliable as a means of determining that it's gone. Third, the fungus is ubiquitous and returns quickly -- you manage tinea versicolor long-term. Fourth, a single depigmented patch is unlikely to be tinea versicolor. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding or you need a second physician's opinion.

Have to have HIV to have a fungal skin infection such as tinea versicolor?

Have to have HIV to have a fungal skin infection such as tinea versicolor?

No: Tinea versicolor is a failry common skin infection with a fungus called malassezia furfur. A person does not need to have HIV infection in order to have a case of tinea versicolor. This can be treated by oral or topical antifungals depending on the extent of the infection.

Is loprox (ciclopirox) cream ok to use on my mild to oily skin on face to treat tinea versicolor or is the gel version better?

Is loprox (ciclopirox) cream ok to use on my mild to oily skin on face to treat tinea versicolor or is the gel version better?

Not much difference: The 3 topical formulations (gel, cream, lotion) available offer little difference for skin type...They just feel a bit different during application because of different consistency, but otherwise they all dry out relatively quickly and thus probably won't make much of a difference for you. So whatever you have/got, give it a try. U probably have more than just on face? Consult doc. Good luck.

Is sulfur soap good to treat and prevent reoccurrence of tinea versicolor? And is there a faster way to rid the white spots on skin. Thank you!

The skin: Is the largest organ in the body. Thus it needs nutritional elements just the same as any other organ. Tenia versicolor is a low grade fungus infection of the skin and might respond to a course of fluconazole.

How can I treat tinea versicolor on my neck, back and abdomen? My skin is extremely sensitive and I can't use harsh products like selsun blue. Ideas?

Antifungal by mouth: Talk to your doctor about using a oral medication called ketoconazole. It's an antifungal medication that can be used for fungal infection. This would help avoid the use of harsh chemicals on your skin.
