Is creatine Kinase typically elevated in ALS patients?

Is creatine Kinase typically elevated in ALS patients?

Below: Serum creatine kinase (CK) levels were recorded in 100 patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). CK concentrations were elevated in 43% of the patients, with a mean level of 240 U/liter and a range of 59-1,327 U/liter (male normal less than 95 U/liter, female normal less than 59 U/liter). All patients with elevated CK had muscle weakness. Seven patients were initially misdiagnosed as hav ...Read more

Increased aldolase, complement c3/c4 serum, sed rate, c-react. Protein, beta globulin, monocytes, bun/creatin low mcv-mch, vit d-possible causes?

Complicated: When i was doing clinical medicine, these were collectively sort of the flags for sarcoid disease but I am not saying that's the case here. This is because sarcoid is a diagnosis of exclusion so the advice is to rule out other diseases with additional diagnostic tests which can be done by a primary care physician or rheumatologist. ...Read more

What are ldh isoenzymes?

What are ldh isoenzymes?

Obsolete test: There are five forms of the ldh enzyme. Type i is especially abundant in heart, and if it was higher than type ii, it was a marker for heart attack. If all five were equally high, think infectious mono, type v was marker for skeletal muscle or liver injury, and so forth, type iii for a lung infarct. It was helpful but today's labs are more sensitive and more specific. ...Read more

For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Suspect?: Please send us your serial WBC counts done so far. You need to do some more CBC tests and see how your WBC count would change over a few months before we can be certain as to what is causing the high WBC counts. There is no rush for doing any other tests for the next few months unless WBC count keeps rising. ...Read more

What supplements would lower creatine kinase levels.

?

None: No supplements will lower creatine kinase which signifies potential muscle breakdown when elevated. In past, we tested CK when we suspected a heart attack. Levels can also be elevated when muscles are damaged (rare condition = rhabdomyolysis).
