Consult kidney doc: Lasix (furosemide) should be dosed atleast twice a day for maximum effect. Salt intake should be restricted. Higher doses are needed if you have kidney problem or low albumin in the blood. Most important, talk to your doctor to figure out why your legs are swollen. It can be due to poor circulation which may not respond to Lasix (furosemide). ...Read more

There : There is a lot that is not known here. Don't know how long you have been on a trial of the current medication regimen. Don't know how high your blood pressure is running or if you have any congestive heart failure. Would recommend that you call your doctor or his / her medical staff to pose this question. ...Read more

Fine yes: You have staples on the skin. You had a laparotomy. The staples are used to hold the skin together until the skin edged start to heal. The longer the better but after a certain point the staples get scanned over and get hard to remove. 14 days will be fine. Continue to eat well and walk every day. ...Read more

Is it possible to have a heart attack without any warning signs? Symptoms of heart attack (dizziness, anxiety, cough, fainting, etc) are very similar to other conditions, how can I figure out if those are signs of heart attack?

Is it possible to have a heart attack without any warning signs? Symptoms of heart attack (dizziness, anxiety, cough, fainting, etc) are very similar to other conditions, how can I figure out if those are signs of heart attack?

Chest : Chest pressure, shortness of breath, nausea, and sweating are the most common symptoms of a heart attack. Some people will describe it as feeling like indigestion, or may have aching in the arms, jaw, shoulder, or upper back. The likelihood of a heart attack increases as the number of symptoms increase, and the probability is also higher in someone over the age of forty. These symptoms are also more worrisome in people who smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease. However, it is quite possible to have a heart attack with few or mild symptoms, and while less common, they can occur in people under the age of forty. Unfortunately, many other conditions can produce symptoms that are similar or identical to a heart attack, including heartburn, panic attacks, collapsed lungs, and pulmonary embolism. It may be impossible to distinguish a heart attack from other conditions without testing, even for a seasoned physician. For this reason, you should seek care immediately if these symptoms occur. Unexplained fainting should always be checked out promptly. Similarly, chest discomfort or difficulty breathing that lasts more than 10-15 minutes is grounds for going to the nearest emergency room. ...Read more

I had sex 2 weeks ago on the day of my period . Now I am spotting does it mean i'm pregnant or could it be hormonal changes . Also that was my first time having sex and we used a condom but i know condoms can break

If : If you had sex while on your period, your chances of pregnancy are pretty low, especially if you used a condom. The spotting could be from your hymen being torn during sex. This spotting should resolve in 1-2 weeks. Also now is a great time to see your doctor to discuss all your birth control options, as well as condom use to protect against std's. Take care. ...Read more

I am in the first trimester of my pregnancy. My obstetriciansent me to the ER for headaches. They performed a CT scan. They shielded my front and back. I am worried that i shouldn't have let them do it. Is there a risk?

Concern about : Possible effects of high dose ionizing radiation exposure should not prevent medically indicated diagnostic x-ray procedures from being performed. When possible other diagnostic procedure should be considered like MRI (not associated with adverse fetal effects). If the shielding was done properly most probably everything will be ok. Risk of carcinogenesis very low. Talk to your OB next visit. ...Read more
