Yes: It is a well established fact that a large percentage of the children incarcerated in juvenile detention facilities have diagnosable psychiatric disorders. The most recent study by the National Center for Mental Health and Juvenile Justice found that over 70% of youth involved with the juvenile justice system had at least one diagnosable mental health disorder and over 60% of those with at least one diagnosis in fact met the criteria for three or more mental health disorders. The study also showed that girls experienced a higher rate of mental health disorders, with over 80% of the girls meeting the criteria for at least one mental health disorder.
