.

Depending : Depending on the depth of the filling it is understandable to have varying degrees of post operative sensitivity. The rule of thumb is that you should be able to feel that it is getting a little bit better each week, not worse or the same. If it is not improving some intervention may be necessary. Regardless, it can't hurt to have your dentist check it out--may be something as simple as a bite adjustment. ...Read more

Is it normal for my tooth to still be hurting 2 weeks after a big filling? I can't even chew food on that side or drinking cold fluids

No: See the Dentist. 2 common causes for this. Most common is that the bite is not correct and you keep hitting on this -- get it adjusted now that you are not numb.Next would be that the tooth (nerve) is not able to recover from the accumulated trauma to this tooth (perhaps a very deep cavity) and cannot heal. You would need to have a root canal done, then a build-up and likely a crown. See Dentist. ...Read more

I got 2 root canals and fillings, but there is still pain in my tooth when i eat hot food and drink cold drinks. Why?

I got 2 root canals and fillings, but there is still pain in my tooth when i eat hot food and drink cold drinks. Why?

New filling?: A tooth that has had a filling placed recently can be sensitive to thermal changes...Especially if the filling was amalgam (silver). A tooth that has had a root canal..If done properly..Will never again feel pain from temperature change. If there is sensitivity to hot or cold, it is likely from another tooth. ...Read more

My tooth hurts, because I have lost a temporary filling. It is causing teeth pain. It feels like, when you drink something cold. Is it dangerous?

Infection: If the tooth becomes infected (abscessed) it could be dangerous. You MUST have temporary filling replaced as soon as possible to seal off the opening into the tooth. Note the word "temporary." That means just a few weeks, not months or years. Please call your Dentist before your chronic problem becomes an acute problem. ...Read more

Bruise: It is not uncommon after an extraction to have the tissue more vulnerable to minor trauma. Any chewing in the area could possibly traumatize it. So unless food was forced under the gum the area should heal well. Leave it alone but if it lasts start warm salt water rinses in the area. ...Read more

Yes: I think the answer to your questions is Yes the other teeth can still be loose and sensitive to the touch if the infection on the tooth of issue was extensive. The body also has it's own process of dealing with issues and this may be different from person to person. If you still have concerns just call and schedule with your current dentist to review the area and help ease your concerns ...Read more

Can a filling cause the tooth to become sensitive to cold and hot foods/drinks?

Yes it is possible: If the tooth had a deep "cavity" that needed to be filled, the filling may be very close to the nerve. This may cause some sensitivity. It is also possible that your filling is a little "high" and needs to be adjusted. On and off sensitivity is always possible with a new filling. If you do not have decrease in symptoms in a week or two or it gets worse, contact your dentist for further evaluation. ...Read more

I have had a pulpotomy done on my tooth 1 day ago, and there a temporary filling there. But now I am experiencing pain. What does that mean?

This can happen: Pain after pulpotomy can happen. Just means the nerve is still responding to inflammation, may also be an infection. I would suggest going back to the treating dentist for an evaluation. See if the root canal therapy can be completed. That will usually solve the problem of the pain. Good Luck ...Read more

Is it normal to be senstive to cold foods now after i had as fillin done . Which never happened to my tooth before the filling?

Not uncommon: Perhaps 'normal' is not the right word. It happens frequently. Think of it this way. You have a small tumor in your abdomen. You had no pain. Following the successful removal of the tumor, you are sore and uncomfortable. In both cases the body was surgically treated and needs to heal back to health. It should resolve shortly. If not, see your dentist. ...Read more

A dentist has done three fillings on one tooth in three weeks. He keeps finding more decay. Is this normal?

Not particularly: I cannot explain why your current dentist would need to revisit the same tooth three times in three weeks and each time find additional decay, especially without being able to see a radiograph of the tooth and the tooth itself. If you are concerned, please seek a second opinion from another local dentist who can actually examine you. ...Read more

You : You should go to a dentist and have an x-ray and examination of your tooth. The dentist will tell you if there is any hope for the tooth. In your description - you mentioned that the tooth is loose - that makes me think that the chances for saving the tooth are not good. Please seek treatment right away - an abscess is a bacterial infection. It can make you quite sick and cause a lot of pain. ...Read more

Yestarday, my dentist replaced my old filling with new one and now my tooth hurts and it is super sensitive when I eat chew food on it. What can I do?

Take it easy...: Don't stress the tooth; try not to chew on it for a while. Avoid very hot or cold foods and drinks. The filling is probably deep and the nerve is inflamed. This usually resolves on its own, but feel free to contact your dentist for further guidance. ...Read more

I got a root canal done years ago. The temporary filling fell out and never got replaced. Now I have infection. I am on amoxicillin. Its day 3 and my tooth still hurts. When will the pain go away?

When problem solved: We have no way of knowing if your root canal therapy was ever completed? Quality of the treatment? Recurrent infection? Fractured root? Adjacent tooth? Gum infection? Etc. Etc. I suggest a few things: first, see your dentist to go over your options for this particular problem. Second, follow the recommendations. Third, learn from your experience and get all your treatment done in a timely fashion. ...Read more

Had filling done on two teeth (between each other). Food keeps getting stuck between teeth now and its hard to floss. What can I do about this?

Contact the office: When two opposing fillings are contacting each other, often times the way they come together is not ideal and can trap food and make it hard to floss. The only way to properly fix this would be to return to the dentist who performed the treatment and explain the situation. The dentist can then evaluate the fillings and make adjustments to prevent food entrapment and make flossing easier. ...Read more

I got filling in three of my teeth. It did bother me but the dentist said that i had decay under the filling. Now i can't chew with my teeth but my bite is not off. What should I do?

Call your dentist: It is common for you to experience some sensitivity for a few days after a filling, especially if the tooth had deep decay. If your bite feels normal and the sentisivity lasts more than a few days and is increasing it is time to call your dentist and have the teeth checked. There is a possibility that you may need to have a root canal. ...Read more
