Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. ...Read more

Be patient: It might just take a little while for your hormones to balance. Keep taking your pills daily. Hopefully the bleeding will stop soon. Get through this entire pill pack. If you are still bleeding when you start your 2nd pill pack, call your doctor. There a few tricks sometimes we'll recommend, but sometimes you also just need a different brand pill. Good luck. :) ...Read more

I'm on Junel birth control pills and today makes 7 days that's I'm late for my period. I'm having some cramping and on Sunday I had a little red speck?

Junel: Junel is a very low dose birth control pill so it stimulates very little growth of the uterine lining and it is not uncommon for it to cause missed periods or only spotting on the placebos (reminder pills). If you have been taking them at the same time everyday, the chance of pregnancy is extremely small. Just keep taking them. If you are worried check a pregnancy test. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Will doxycycline (50 mg per day) make my Junel Fe (birth control) pills less effective?

Safe > Sorry: While no evidence shows that any antibiotic except rifampin alters the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, the package inserts will likely say that there could be a problem with the interaction. I would advise you to use a back-up form of contraception while on the doxy. ...Read more

Will taking Lactulose, Colace and Cipro (ciprofloxacin) clash with taking Junel Fe birth control? And if meds aren't working what should I do with these?

Cipro (ciprofloxacin) an issue: Antibiotics are known to sometimes affect the birth control function. Use secondary protection during your time on them. The other medications are for constipation and should not be a problem. Drink plenty of water and make sure you have lots of fiber in your diet - popcorn, veges, fortified cereal. May also consider adding Beneful to daily routine if dietary fiber hard to get. ...Read more

Will taking junel 120 birth control pills be enough to keep me from getting pregnant even if they are a lower dosage?

Will taking junel 120 birth control pills be enough to keep me from getting pregnant even if they are a lower dosage?

Yes ~98%: In 14+ yrs experience I have not yet seen but one woman get pregnant while taking birth control the correct way. The first month you should always use a second form of b.C. And keep in mind they do not prevent std's. As far as the low dose goes. I would say there is approximately a 98% chance that they will work if taken correctly. If you miss a dose remember to take two the next day catch up. ...Read more

Will a combined birth control (junel fe 1.5 30) be less effective if you take it a couple hours apart? For example one day, 6am. The next 930. Am..

Unlikely: While it's a very good practice to be consistent with your pill taking, the combined pill i'd potent enough that a few hour delay in administration is not going to have a substantially negative effect on efficacy. Progestin only pills however require same time daily administration. ...Read more

On birth control. Junel fe 1/20. Should I worry about backup method on fluconazole? Took the pill on Tuesday the 19th

Backup method??: Fluconazole is an anti fungal medicine, NOT a birth control medicine! Either you misspelled a word or somebody is misleading you. The BCPs that you are taking have an efficacy of greater than 99% if you follow the directions scrupulously. Their very rare failure is due to women skipping the pill. It doesn't work if you don't take it. Back up includes diaphragm, IUD, foam, condom use, etc. ...Read more

I'm interested in taking a diet supplement that contains forskolin (Coleus forskohlii). I'm on the birth control Junel Fe. Will it interfere with it?

Coleus +BCP: Hello~ I did a literature search on this drug. It comes from the root of an unpronouncible plant. Its has been used through the ages, to treat anything from erectile dysfunction to heart failure. It has never been subjected to a double blind trial and only article I could find was from Ayevedura practitioners. I don't think it would interfere with BCP, but what about everything else?
